Compared to the Indonesia-spec NMAX 155, the Thai version misses out on some key equipment. For instance, the latter does not have keyless start, traction control system and Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster.

Among the new features, 2020 NMAX 155 gets a sporty digital instrument console. Users can now access various settings in the system using a dedicated switch provided on the handlebar. A USB charging port has also been added on the top left of the front glove compartment. In terms of safety, the scooter is equipped with dual-channel ABS thanks to having disc brakes at both ends.

Other notable highlights include front storage compartment, large under-seat storage and split-style footboard. In Thailand, the new Yamaha NMAX 155 comes with four colour options: Black, Grey, Blue and Red.

Yamaha NMAX 155 measures 1935mm in length, 740mm in width and 1160mm in height. Its seat height touches 765 mm while wet weight is 131 kg. The maxi-scooter utilizes a ‘backbone frame’ that sits on telescopic front forks and a swingarm rear suspension.

Yamaha’s new NMAX 155 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled SOHC four-valve engine that churns out a max power of 14.9bhp at 8,000rpm and 14.4Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The engine is equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) tech that ensures optimum performance throughout the rev range.

If you find the stats familiar, it is because the engine is essentially the same unit powering Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0. Yamaha has also added automatic engine stop/start system, wherein the scooter shuts off by itself if left idle for more than five seconds. This helps save fuel in tight traffic.

Talking about the Indian market, maxi-scooters have just begun their journey here with Suzuki’s Burgman Street being the most popular example. Other names include Aprilia SXR 160 and Honda Forza 300.
