Mazda has filed a notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that, in about 36,761 CX-5 crossovers in the United States, the LED daytime running lights could be defective. NHTSA has not yet issued a recall notice or published information about the defect.

Mazda says the problem happened because “inappropriate” materials were used for the sealing gasket attached to the LED daytime running lights’ wiring connector. The gasket can release sulfur that can corrode the LED circuit that controls the lights. This could lead to flickering or failure to illuminate in one or both of the front daytime running lights without warning, making the vehicle more difficult for other drivers or pedestrians to see, Mazda says.
There have been no reports of accidents or injuries. Mazda can be expected to fix this issue but has not yet issued recall instruction. CX-5 owners can check the NHTSA recalls website for details as they become available.
