Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India has revealed sales report for Jan 2020. Domestic sales have declined, exports have increased.
Honda 2Wheelers India sales surpassed the 4 lakh mark in January 2020. Total sales is reported at 4,03,383 units down 4.45 percent from 4,22,177 units sold in January 2019. Domestic sales is reported at 3,74,091, down 6.64 percent from 4,00,694 units sold in January 2019. Exports grew 36.34 percent up at 29,292 units from 21,483 units.
Through January 2020, Honda BSVI production increased to 60 percent of total business volume. Now with February 2020 underway, Honda will move to 100 percent BSVI transition. The company says its BSVI launches have been received well by buyers in India. At this time, customers still have the choice of picking between a BSIV and BSVI model. This freedom though exists only until the company is still dispatching BSIV stock. This stock however is fast depleting.
Honda 2W | Jan-20 | Jan-19 | Diff | % |
---|---|---|---|---|
Total | 4,03,383 | 4,22,177 | -18,794 | -4.45 |
Domestic | 3,74,091 | 4,00,694 | -26,603 | -6.64 |
Exports | 29,292 | 21,483 | 7,809 | 36.35 |
However, it still works in favour of customers. At this time, the company has made available limited period offers that benefit customers by upto 10k. In January 2020, Honda launched the 6th gen Activa, aka, Activa 6G. There’s no doubt that Honda will be able to smoothly transition to BSVI having initiated processes well in time to begin the journey back in September 2019. In fact, only last week Honda revealed that it had already sold more than 1 lakh BSVI compliant units. Honda began its BSVI transition with Activa 125, SP 125 and Activa 6G.
Honda enjoys an undisputed distinction of selling the most number of scooters in India, month after month. The Activa, which has been in the market for about two decades now, has managed to remain the pulse of the scooter industry. To keep the momentum, Honda has continually updated and upgraded Activa.
Exports too have been impressive. To date, Honda has exported 25 lakh units from India. Exports growth in the last 5 years has been phenomenal, with 15 lakh of total exports being shipped in last 5 years. Where it is the Activa which rules the charts in domestic market, when it comes to exports, it is the Dio which is the No 1 scooter exported from India. Honda will soon launch Dio BS6 facelift in India.
With 100 percent BSVI transition being the need of the hour, Honda Navi and Cliq small two-wheelers don’t look like they have a future on our shores. While Navi is exported overseas, its demand in India is down to naught. This arrangement could work for a while until export markets too demand an updated emission compliancy.
