BMW India Sales 2024 – Growth in Cars and Challenges Elsewhere
In 2024, BMW India reported 15,012 units sold, marking 12.85 percent increase from 2023. Monthly averages rose to 1,251 units to reflect steady customer demand. Sales in 2023 stood at 13,303 units, an 18.06 percent growth from 2022, when 11,268 units were sold. Momentum over these years indicate sustained market expansion.
BMW Group’s 2024 performance in India showcased its best year. The group delivered 24,022 units across BMW, MINI, and Motorrad divisions, achieving 4.72 percent overall growth. BMW cars accounted for 15,012 units, marking a 12.85 percent rise, while MINI sales reached 709 units, on the back of 18.41 percent decline. BMW Motorrad contributed 8,301 units, reflecting 5.33 percent decrease.
Record-Breaking Q4 for BMW India in 2024
Quarterly and monthly sales data pinpoint BMW India’s growth momentum. The company reported its highest-ever Q4 sales with 4,958 units, at 15 percent growth from the previous year, and Q3 2024. December 2024 marked the highest monthly sales volume of 2,244 units, reflecting 17 percent rise.
Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) played a key role in BMW India’s success. These vehicles contributed 56 percent to BMW’s total car sales, equating to 8,351 units in 2024. Models such as the BMW X5 and BMW X7 were instrumental, with the X5 achieving an 89 percent sales increase, totalling 2,056 units. BMW X7 added another 1,570 units, growing 4 percent.
From i7 to Scooters: BMW Electric
BMW’s electric vehicle (EV) portfolio expanded significantly, with 1,249 units delivered in 2024. This brought cumulative EV sales to 3,000 units. A steady shift towards sustainable mobility solutions. Six electric car models and two scooters were key contributors, including popular offerings like the BMW i7 and iX.
Luxury Class sales saw 8 percent rise, totalling 2,507 units. Models like the BMW 7 Series sold 865 units, reflecting 15 percent increase. BMW M340i also saw significant demand with 875 units sold in 2024. These figures highlight the strong customer preference for premium vehicles within the Indian market.
MINI Cooper S Stands Out Amid Sales Decline
MINI’s performance in 2024 was led by the 3-Door Cooper S, which saw a remarkable 77 percent growth, totalling 250 units. While overall MINI sales declined, this model’s performance indicated a niche yet strong demand for compact luxury cars.
BMW Motorrad sales dipped to 8,301 motorcycles in 2024. Down from 8,768 units in 2023, losing 467 units along the way.
Leadership, Strategy, and Sales
BMW India recorded total car sales of 139,012 units from 2009 to 2024. These figures reflect the company’s growing footprint in the luxury car market. An average sales volume of 8,688 cars per year during this period presents consistent performance despite market fluctuations.
Economic disruptions in 2020 caused sales to dip to 6,092 units, a sharp 32.31 percent decline. Recovery was evident in 2021 with 8,236 units sold, registering a 35.19 percent growth. Similarly, 2019 saw a decline of 13.50 percent with sales at 9,000 units, following a stronger 2018 performance of 10,405 units. This volatility reflects challenges and opportunities within the luxury automotive segment.
