2021 Mazda 6 Adds Torque, Features, and a Special Edition

  • The 2021 Mazda 6 sedan is getting a few updates to its engine and equipment list.
  • It’s available with a new Carbon Edition appearance package (pictured).
  • The 2021 6 starts at $25,720 and goes on sale later this month.

The 2021 Mazda 6 sedan is receiving many of the same updates bestowed upon its crossover stablemates. Along with slightly more torque for its optional turbocharged engine, the Mazda 6 also gets some new connectivity features and a Carbon Edition model with appearance tweaks.

The base naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine is unchanged, but the optional turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four receives an extra 10 lb-ft of torque, for a total of 320. A six-speed automatic transmission remains the sole gearbox, and there’s no word on either the promised diesel engine or all-wheel drive that Mazda announced for the 6 a while ago. For what it’s worth, Mazda still lists the diesel-powered 6 on its consumer website as an upcoming vehicle, but we’re not holding out hope at this point.

While the 6 isn’t getting the updated infotainment system from some other Mazda models, it does now have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment. Apple CarPlay can be done wirelessly on the top trim levels including Grand Touring and Signature.

The Carbon Edition (pictured), which we previously detailed, comes in a special color combo of polymetal grey exterior with a red interior. It also has black trim and is available only with the optional turbo engine. It sits just below the top Signature model in the lineup and starts at $33,745.

Pricing for the other models starts slightly higher than before, at $25,720 for the base Sport. Turbo models start off with the $30,970 Grand Touring, and all 2.5T cars now have a “Turbo” badge to differentiate them. Mazda says the 2021 6 will arrive at dealerships later this month.
