2021 Ford Bronco Sport Slightly Cheaper Than the More Rugged Bronco

Marc UrbanoCar and Driver

  • Ford’s 2021 Bronco Sport starts just over $28,000, compared with the $29,995 base price of the regular Bronco.
  • Like its more rugged sibling, it has Big Bend, Outer Banks, and Badlands trim levels as well as a First Edition limited to 2000 units.
  • The Bronco Sport goes on sale by the end of this year.

The Bronco is finally here. While the Bronco Sport is the tamer version of the new 4×4 series, it starts only a few thousand dollars less than the more rugged Bronco. The new Bronco Sport starts at $28,155 and comes with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Like the Bronco, it’ll have the terrain management system. Plus, it’s got a safari-style roof, 17-inch wheels, flip-up liftgate glass, and Sync 4 on an 8.0-inch display.

Beyond that, the prices increase exponentially as you start to go through the trim levels.

The Bronco Sport gets many of the same trim level names as the Bronco, with a similar theme. There are no Wildtrak or Black Diamond, versions the standard Bronco has.

The Big Bend version comes with 17-inch carbonized gray wheels, a rubberized cargo floor, cloth seats, a rear center armrest, zipper pockets in the back from the front seats, push-button start, two-way manually folding rear seats, Bronco printed in white on the grille, heated side mirrors, and SiriusXM. Its starting cost is $28,160.

The Outer Banks version expands on the Big Bend with a black roof, 18-inch black aluminum wheels, a 6.5-inch digital instrument panel, leather-trimmed and heated eight-way adjustable power front seats, heated leather steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, a rear window de-icer, and remote start. It’s the more techy trim level and will start at $33,655.

The Badlands trim also starts off with the Big Bend version and adds a larger 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, off-road suspension, 4×4 twin-clutch rear-drive unit, 28.5-inch tires, eight-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift paddles, metal “bash plates,” trail control, a front 180-degree camera with a washer, front tow hooks, a full-size spare, and rubberized flooring. The priciest regular-edition Bronco Sport starts at $34,155.

For those who need a special-edition Bronco Sport in their garage, the vehicle will only have 2000 of the special First Edition. Like the Bronco, it’ll include the Badlands trim level with some extras including 17-inch black wheels, a special grille with Bronco molded into it like the regular Bronco. Special black hood and decals, 29-inch tires, Class II towing package, 10 speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, powered and heated leather front seats, moonroof, and special colors like the teal-like Area 51. It’ll cost $39,995.

While the Bronco Sport isn’t as exciting as the Bronco, the Sport will likely appeal to those looking for off-road capabilities in a more traditional package.
