Toyota Brings Back Trail Edition for 2021 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra

  • Toyota is offering a limited-production run of 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra Trail Editions.
  • All of the trucks are based on the SR5 model and are offered in either rear- or all-wheel-drive models.
  • 4000 4Runners, 7000 Tacomas, and 5000 Tundra Trail Editions will be produced.

The Toyota 4Runner SUV’s TRD Off Road model was once called the Trail Edition. Now Toyota is bringing that name back as a special edition for the 2021 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra. All feature unique styling with an emphasis on convenient storage for off-road adventures.

All three of these trucks are based on an SR5 model—the Tacoma is an SR5 double cab, while the Tundra is an SR5 crew-cab model with the upgrade package—and are available with either rear- or four-wheel drive. Each Trail Edition features black badging, black seats with tan stitching, and all-weather floor mats.

The 4Runner Trail has 17-inch dark gray TRD wheels, a Yakima LoadWarrior rooftop cargo basket, and a custom 40-quart cooler with a sliding trunk tray. The Tacoma Trail has 18-inch dark gray TRD off-road wheels wrapped with Kevlar all-terrain tires, a Tacoma Limited grille, and a 115-volt power outlet in the bed along a lockable storage bin on the driver’s side that can be used as a cooler. The Tundra Trail has the Tundra 1794 Edition grille with special edition wheels and the same lockable storage bin as the Tacoma Trail.

A few of Toyota’s amazing exterior colors are available on the Trail Editions: Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, and Super White. The 4Runner Trail’s cooler can come color matched in Cement or Army Green, but on Midnight Black and Super White trucks, the cooler choice is Cement.

Toyota says that 4000 4Runners, 7000 Tacomas, and 5000 Tundra Trail Editions will be produced.
