- Polestar and Koenigsegg posted photos on their social media accounts of the Polestar Precept concept and Koenigsegg Gemera, saying “Stay tuned,” implying some future collaboration.
- Many speculated it meant the two Swedish companies are collaborating on some new tech, but Polestar told Car and Driver that it’s just for a promotional video. We’ve reached out to Koenigsegg and will report any comment we get from that company.
- The Precept is an electric concept while the Gemera is a hybrid two-door four-seater powered by a powerful three-cylinder and three electric motors.
Polestar and Koenigsegg, two Swedish automakers, posted photos of the Polestar Precept concept and the upcoming Koenigsegg Gemera four-seat megacar together on social media yesterday. The photos led many to believe that the two Swedish companies were collaborating on some sort of new tech. After all, the posts did say that something exciting is coming soon and to “stay tuned.”

However, when asked if the collaboration would involve any sort of new technology or if one of the brands would use the other’s tech, a Polestar spokesman told C/D that there will be “nothing at all. The brands (and our designers) are quite friendly, and decided to have some fun with cars for everyone to enjoy.” The promotional video will be released on June 25 at 6:00 a.m. ET.
The Koenigsegg Gemera is the latest from the ultra-exclusive niche automaker. Unlike most of its cars, which are powered by either twin-supercharged or -turbocharged V-8s, the four-seat, two-door Gemera is powered by a sequentially turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-three, which Koenigsegg nicknamed the “tiny friendly giant,” in conjunction with three electric motors and Koenigsegg’s single-speed direct-drive transmission. Together, these motors make 1677 horsepower and 2581 lb-ft of torque. A perfect reason why some thought the two companies would collaborate on some hybrid technology.
Polestar is Volvo’s electric sub-brand, and the Precept is the company’s futuristic concept, although it doesn’t look too far from production. Like most other electrified concepts, the Precept is filled with screens, has an electric powertrain, and is claimed to have autonomous features. Details on the electric powertrain have yet to be released, but Polestar says it has a “large battery pack,” and we can see a prominent lidar pod on the roof, reassuring that there will be some autonomous capability.
From what Polestar told us, it just seems like the two Swedish automakers have a good relationship, which doesn’t close the door for technological collaboration in the future. But for now, they’re apparently just having some fun with their art departments.
