Photos that purport to show the the new 2021 Nissan Rogue are circulating online, giving us a preview of the redesigned compact crossover ahead of its first official appearance. A Nissan spokesperson confirmed to C/D that the 2021 Rogue will debut within the next few months, and that the new model is scheduled to start production in fall 2020.
The existing Rogue debuted way back in 2013, so this comprehensive update is a long time coming. The new model’s styling appears to be similar to what we saw in earlier spy photos, with a prominent V-shaped grille and a split-level headlight treatment. Its overall shape is boxier than the current model, with a squared-off rear end. Inside, it looks to ape the design of the recently redesigned Sentra and Altima sedans, with a tablet-style infotainment screen that dominates the dashboard and diamond-quilted leather seats.
We expect the new Rogue to share many of its mechanical components with the Altima. That means a 2.5-liter inline-four with around 180 horsepower should be standard, paired with a CVT and either front- or all-wheel drive. Nissan might decide to offer the VC-Turbo 2.0-liter inline-four with a variable compression ratio as an upgrade engine for the Rogue—and we’d be happy if so.
Pricing should stay mostly in line with the current model, which starts at $26,395 for the base S and ranges up to around $36,000 for a fully loaded SL model. Look for more official news to come from Nissan in the coming weeks and months as the company prepares to launch this new version of its most popular nameplate in the U.S.
