For 2021, Subaru has revisited the Crosstrek, giving it an updated, sportier appearance and adding options. Most notably, the 2021 Crosstrek will come available with a 2.5-liter boxer-four that churns out 182 horsepower, which is 30 more than the standard 2.0-liter engine.
That higher-powered engine will be offered on two trim levels, the new-for-2021 Sport and the top-end Limited. Along with a more powerful engine, the Sport trim expands some off-road features from elsewhere in the Subaru lineup to the Crosstrek for the first time, including a dual-function X-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud capability.
The Sport trim also gets its own unique interior, punctuated by yellow stitching and the Sport logo. It comes standard with Subaru’s continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT); a six-speed manual remains standard on the base and Premium trims, with the CVT optional. For Crosstrek models with the CVT, Subaru adds two new driver-assistance features, adaptive cruise control and lane centering, and the top Limited model also gets reverse automated emergency braking, blind-spot detection with lane-change assist and cross-traffic alert, and high-beam assist features. The Limited also has a leather interior with orange contrast stitching.
Across the trim levels, the 2021 Crosstrek sees aesthetic upgrades, including sharp, sporty lines running the length of the car and a more rugged-looking front end. The 2020 Crosstrek starts at $23,155, and the 2021 should start around that level. It will reach dealer lots later this summer; expect pricing closer to the on-sale date.
