2021 BMW 4-Series Coupe M Sport Package Pro Previews Next-Gen M4

  • BMW is offering its first ever M Sport Pro package on the completely redesigned 2021 4-series, though it won’t be available for U.S. buyers.
  • The M Sport Pro package includes the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, M Sport brakes, M seatbelts, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
  • Overseas customers can also get black 20-inch M Performance wheels, a carbon-fiber grille, and other M-specific body components.

The BMW 4-series coupe is completely redesigned for 2021, controversial big-mouthed grille and all. Later this year, the new 4-series will be getting a high-performance M4 model from BMW’s M division; however, this fall, U.S. buyers will get the 430i and M440i models. On the more powerful M440i model in Europe, BMW is offering the first ever M Sport package Pro, which includes all the available M Performance goodies. BMW hasn’t given details on U.S. availability of M Performance parts yet.

The new package is in addition to all the M bits that come on the standard M Sport model. The Pro gets the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with the Sprint function, available in Sport mode, that allows for short bursts of speed and more pronounced engine sounds in the cabin. It also includes M Sport brakes, M seatbelts, and a Harman Kardon sound system.

In addition to the standard options on the M Sport Pro package, customers can spice up their M440i even closer to M territory with black 20-inch M Performance light alloy wheels, a carbon-fiber grille, a front splitter, side skirts, black aero pieces, and M Performance tailpipes. Inside, they can get a carbon-fiber-and-suede-wrapped M Performance steering wheel, doorsill plates, and carbon-fiber interior trim.

The M440i is powered by a 382-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a 48-volt hybrid system that provides a small boost of power at low rpm. Every M440i has BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, but BMW says that a rear-wheel-drive version is coming later. The M4 will have a manual-transmission option, but the M440i is sticking only with the ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic.

Pricing for the 2021 BMW M440i xDrive starts at $59,495, and it will arrive in the U.S. this fall. The high-performance M4 will debut later this year.
