- The Land Rover Defender has been away from the U.S. market for nearly a quarter-century, but today the rugged SUV comes back to American dealerships.
- As we told you last fall, the Defender we’re getting first is the four-door 110, priced starting at $50,925.
- Land Rover will bring the two-door Defender 90 this summer, moving ahead with its plans to market the cars here despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The 2020 Land Rover Defender is finally making its way into the hands of dealers and customers across the United States. This marks the first time in 23 years that a Defender will be sold here. A Land Rover spokesperson wouldn’t give C/D actual numbers of the four-door Defender 110 that are arriving at dealerships starting June 1, only saying that dealers will receive “an initial supply” of the vehicles for display, after which customer deliveries will be scheduled. The shorter-wheelbase, two-door Defender 90 will arrive in showrooms in the summer.
The Defender is the third Land Rover model sold in the United States, joining the Discovery and Range Rover. It made its debut for the 2019 Frankfurt auto show. We recently drove the Defender for 500 miles through Namibia, where it proved that it’s a serious off-roading machine. C/D editors spec’d their preferred version of the Defender and showed they were impressed that it will offer optional steel wheels.
While waiting to see one at a local dealership, you can configure your own on the Land Rover website.
