Honda is adding a hybrid model to the CR-V crossover lineup for the 2020 model year, and the automaker says it will start at $28,870 for the LX model and top out at $37,070 for the Touring model. Additionally, the new hybrid crossover has been EPA rated at 38 mpg.
The 2020 CR-V’s hybrid powertrain is similar to the one found in the Accord hybrid. It’s powered by a naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine paired with two electric motors, producing 212 horsepower. The EPA has rated the new hybrid powertrain at 40 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 38 mpg combined. The CR-V’s direct competitor, the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, is rated at 40 mpg combined.
The CR-V hybrid comes standard with Honda’s Real Time all-wheel-drive system, the Honda Sensing safety and driver-assist package, automatic climate control, and automatic high-beam headlamps. To tell the hybrid model apart from gas-powered CR-Vs, Honda added different badges, a blue Honda logo, different fog lights in the front, and a different bumper and hidden exhaust pipe in back.
The Honda CR-V hybrid will arrive at dealerships on March 1, priced starting at $28,870 for the 2020 Honda CR-V hybrid LX, $31,380 for the EX, $33,870 for the EX-L, and $37,070 for the Touring.
