2020 Chrysler Pacifica Will Get AWD, Too

  • Chrysler has announced that it will sell a few 2020 Pacificas with all-wheel drive since the newly announced 2021 Pacifica will be available with AWD.
  • AWD will only be offered on the 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition, though.
  • Expect to see it at dealerships this summer starting at around $40,000.

The facelifted 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is getting an all-wheel-drive option, a first for a Chrysler minivan since 2004. But demand for AWD minivans is huge, especially in the northern United States and Canada, so Chrysler will start offering a few 2020 Pacificas in AWD Launch Edition guise that send power to all four wheels.

All-wheel drive will only be available on the 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Editions, though. It’s an all-new model meant to introduce the AWD platform, and it’ll even be able to retain the Stow ‘n Go rear seats, a huge storage advantage.

Like the 2021 Pacifica, all-wheel-drive is only available on gas-powered Pacificas—the hybrid model’s battery pack is in the way. The 2020 Pacifica is powered by a 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6 paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Pacifica reached 60 mph in 7.3 seconds during C/D testing, and during our 200-mile highway fuel-economy loop, a Pacifica Limited delivered an impressive 31 mpg.

Pricing for the 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition, based on the Touring L model, is expected to start at around $40,000, with orders starting in the spring. It should be in dealerships this summer. The new, facelifted 2021 Pacificas will arrive this fall, with a starting price around $35,000.
