TVS XL100 BS6 launched with new EMI scheme of Rs 51 per day

Hosur-based two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company has introduced a compelling EMI scheme for its popular four-stroke moped range, XL100. Under the new ‘Buy now Pay after six months’ scheme, customers can purchase a new TVS XL100 BS6 and avail a moratorium of six months prior to the commencement of EMI. In other words, customers can enjoy six months of ownership without paying any instalment.

As it stands, the LTV (Loan To Value) for the scheme is 75 per cent. The finance option will help buyers purchase an XL100 without much of a second thought if an immediate need arises. ‘Buy now Pay after six months’ programme is open till July 31 or roughly two months. Other offers launched by TVS include, low down payment of Rs 7,999; EMI of just Rs 51 per day, etc. To facilitate the ease of purchase, TVS dealers will also be ready to accept the EMI via cash.

Updated to BS6 specifications, the TVS XL100 is available in three variants: Comfort i-Touchstart, Heavy Duty i-Touchstart and Heavy Duty i-Touchstart Special Edition. Ex-showroom prices are in the range of Rs 43,000-46,000. The two-wheeler has no direct rivals and is quite successful in rural and industrial markets. In fact, it is presently the best-selling TVS product.

Differences between each variant are limited to a few colour choices and features. Across the range, a 99.7cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine is employed. It is good for just under 4.5bhp @ 6,000rpm and 6.5Nm @ 3,500rpm. This is mated to a single-speed transmission. While the numbers do not look that impressive on paper, the TVS XL100 is capable of carrying almost double its own kerb weight with relative ease. The 89kg moped has a rated payload of 130kg.

For the BS6 era, prices have gone up by around Rs 3,500 due to the addition of an FI system and considerable rework on its exhaust system. Output figures remain nearly identical as its BS4 counterpart.

In its latest and highest format, notable features include self-start (i-Touchstart) with integrated kill switch, mobile charger, fuel reserve indicator, combi braking system, rollover engine cut-off, lockable fuel tank, LED DRL and dual-tone seats (detachable rear seat). The ‘EcoThrust’ FI system promises 15 per cent better fuel economy as well.

The TVS XL100 is a common sight in Tier II and Tier III markets. It is often considered as an epitome of affordability, durability, utility and abuse-friendliness. The Indian market has had a fair share of mopeds (actual examples with pedals) back in the day but the advent of petrol-CVT scooters, stringent emission norms and ban of two-strokes eventually led to their demise. However, TVS Motor Company chose to continue its moped portfolio with periodic updates without compromising on affordability.
