BS6 Suzuki Access, Burgman Street 125 price hike announced

The Suzuki Access 125’s transition from BS4 to BS6 saw prices getting increased by almost Rs 6,500. Following its BS6 launch, prices were hiked further by Rs 2,300. Now, the BS6 model has received yet another price hike of Rs 1,700. This relates to a total price hike of Rs 10,000 over the Suzuki Access 125 BS4’s counterpart. Similarly, Suzuki Motorcycle India has also raised the price tag of its new BS6 Burgman Street 125 by Rs 1,800. The company cites adverse market conditions and higher input costs as reasons for the price revision. Of course, updating to higher emission norms require significant re-engineering to the engine and exhaust components.

Suzuki offers its BS6 Access 125 petrol-CVT scooter in five variants. After the increase, ex-showroom prices for the ‘Drum CBS’ Access 125 variant stand at Rs 68,800. The higher Drum Alloy CBS model comes in at Rs 70,800 while the Disc CBS is priced at Rs 71,000. The Access 125 Special Edition variant, in its drum- and disc-brake formats, are priced at Rs 72,500 and Rs 73,400, respectively. For the BS6 era, Suzuki popular Activa-rival comes with updates in addition to reduced emissions. The list includes silent-start system, full-LED headlamp, revamped instrument cluster, external fuel filler cap and more. Buyers can also choose from a range of accessories such as an optional visor.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 maxi-scooter is offered in a single variant. After the revision mentioned above, it is sold at a price tag of Rs 79,700 ex-showroom. The entry-level Suzuki maxi-scooter appeals to a niche segment of buyers in the country and does not have a direct rival. It offers a high comfort factor alongside impressive storage space and fuel efficiency.

Where engine specifications are concerned, both the Suzuki Access 125 and Burgman Street 125 share the same BS6-compliant 124cc air-cooled FI single-cylinder motor. It offers an output of 8.5bhp @ 6,750rpm and 10Nm at 5,500rpm. Other common mechanicals are their telescopic suspension setup at the front and single-side swingarm at the rear. Braking systems (be it disc or drum units) are also similar. Lower versions of the Access 125 get drum brakes at the front. Either model receives Combi-Brake System as standard.

In terms of competition, the Suzuki Access 125 competes head-on with the Honda Activa 125. The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 will soon see a rival in the form of Aprilia’s SXR 125 maxi-scooter once it launches in the country sometime in early 2021.
