Even as the new BS6 emission regulations have come into force from 1st April 2020, an appeal to the Supreme Court has seen the grant of an extension in selling BS4 models under certain terms and conditions. All showrooms are permitted to sell only 10 percent of BS4 stocks within 10 days following the lifting of the lockdown.
There are some dealerships that have been left with some stocks of BS4 two wheelers and are hence extending heavy discounts on these models. One such dealer is LH Honda, Panipat. Following the lockdown in view of containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic dealerships had been shut and hence all stocks could not be sold off ahead of the deadline. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is cautious about opening its production operations in the post lockdown phase.
The company recently announced intentions to reopen its Karnataka plant which has capacity of 2.4 million units while the other three plants in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana, which account for a combined four million units, could open in a phased manner with the strictest of safety and hygiene precautions in place.
