Ampere Electric, owned by Greaves Cotton Limited, is one of the most popular electric two-wheeler brands in India. It has over a decade of experience in the field of electric or emission-free mobility. To date, Ampere Electric has a customer base of over 50,000 thanks to more than 200 retail outlets across India. The company strives to create affordable and sustainable solutions to India’s growing interest in eco-friendly modes of transport.
The Indian automotive industry is currently going through some rough patches due to COVID-19 and the consequent lockdown and ‘social distancing’ measures. Taking this into account, Ampere Electric has introduced a ‘book online now and pay later’ facility for customers and individuals involved in the fight against COVID-19. It promotes the Indian government’s cashless transaction movement as well.
Under this programme, one can buy an Ampere electric scooter from anywhere with access to the internet by paying a nominal booking amount. The remaining amount can be paid at the time of delivery, which will take place once the lockdown measures are withdrawn. Ampere Electric will be following ‘contactless delivery’ and ‘vehicle sanitisation’ for safety.
The company claims that amidst these challenging times, the nation’s last-mile delivery staff are using Ampere Electric products to transport essential goods such as food and medicine. Apparently, buying an Ampere e-scooter is equivalent to planting 12 trees. In addition to this, Ampere electric scooters will be able to save tons of fuel and “empower the environment for a better tomorrow”. As per data, electric vehicles can save running costs up to 85-90% costs compared to a conventional petrol or diesel alternative.
Ampere Electric has also announced special offers for the front-end staff or ‘coronavirus warriors’. The online booking facility is currently available in major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and New Delhi. Electric vehicles in India have the highest market in these cities.
The Ampere Zeal is the most popular e-scooter from the brand. It is powered by a 1.2kW brushless DC hub motor coupled to a portable 1.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It takes roughly six hours to fully charge the battery from empty, after which the Ampere Zeal can cover about 75km. The 75kg scooter can touch 50km/h from a standstill in six seconds before topping out at 55km/h. There are two riding modes: Economy and Speed. The Ampere Zeal comes at a price tag of Rs 67,000 ex-showroom, Bangalore.
