2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition Gets the Big-Tire Treatment

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition debuts as the most hardcore version of the mid-size pickup truck. It boasts exclusive 35-inch Goodyear mud-terrain tires with beadlock-capable Salta wheels, tougher skid plates, and AEV steel bumpers. With a 4.5-inch factory lift and optional Multimatic hydraulic bump stops, the Canyon AEV is taller and built to handle more abuse than the regular AT4X.Just when some people thought the GMC Canyon AT4X couldn’t get any more extreme, here comes the new-for-2024 AEV Edition. With other off-road-oriented mid-size pickup trucks, such as the recently introduced Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, rolling on 33-inch-tall tires, GMC slaps a set of 35-inch tires on the Canyon. That combined with other exclusive hardware make the AEV Edition the most hardcore Canyon.AEV Takes AT4X to Another LevelMuch like how the Bison version of the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 takes that truck to another level of off-road capability, the AEV Edition does the same for the Canyon AT4X. For those who don’t already know, the regular AT4X boasts 33-inch mud-terrain tires, aluminum skid plates, electronic locking front and rear differentials, Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, wider front and rear tracks, and a 3.0-inch inch lift that helps provide 10.7 inches of ground clearance.GMCEnter the AEV Edition. With taller Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud-Terrain tires—GMC rounds those LT315/70R17 up to 35 inches—and a 4.5-inch lift, it stands 1.5 inches higher than the regular AT4X. That translates to 12.2 inches of ground clearance, and the truck’s AEV-specific front and rear steel bumpers help enable a 38.2-degree approach angle and a 26.0-degree departure angle; its breakover angle is 26.9 degrees. For comparison, the regular AT4X’s approach, breakover, and departure angles measure 36.9, 24.5, and 25 degrees, respectively. One big difference between the Colorado ZR2 Bison and the Canyon AT4X AEV is that the Chevy comes standard with Mutlimatic front and rear hydraulic bumps stops that are designed to withstand the harsh impacts of high-speed off-roading or soften the landing after getting airborne. While these “Jounce Control Dampers” are available on the GMC truck, they cost extra, and the company hasn’t yet revealed how much. GMCAlong with improved clearances and easily accessible recovery points, the front bumper has a slot to accommodate a winch and the rear bumper has a cap on each corner that can be removed to reveal steel plates for sliding over rocks and other hard obstacles. To better protect vital components underneath the Canyon, the AEV Edition comes with additional skid plates, all of which are tougher than the aluminum ones on the regular AT4X. Made of hot-stamped boron steel, the five pieces of armor protect the AEV’s radiator, steering gear, transmission and transfer case, fuel tank, and rear differential. The Canyon AT4X AEV Edition also comes with exclusive 17-inch Salta wheels that are beadlock-capable, rock rails to protect the rocker panels, and a full-size spare tire mounted in the cargo bed. The truck’s front fender openings have also been enlarged to prevent the larger tires from rubbing, and the fender flares are also wider because the AEV version has front and rear tracks that are expected to be almost an inch wider than the regular AT4X. AT4X AEV Arrival and Price Under the hood, the AEV Edition has the same engine as every AT4X. The turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are also standard. Both Canyon models have an exclusive Baja drive mode, but now it includes launch control. Just like on the 2024 Colorado ZR2, it’s accessed using the rotary knob on the center console. Once activated, press the brake pedal, pin the throttle, and release the brake for take off. GMC says the launch mode also automatically adjusts to different surface conditions, so the system will detect if the truck is on dirt, gravel, or sand.GMCInside, the top-spec Canyon looks similar to its AT4X counterpart, except it has AEV-branded floor mats and embroidered headrests. Every model also has a digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as the new Ultifi software that allows over-the-air updates.GMC says the 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will be available to order sometime later this year. There’s also no word on pricing, but we expect the most extreme off-road model to start around $70,000.Other AEV GMC TrucksThis content is imported from poll. 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid Pickup Just Got More Expensive

The Ford Maverick no longer comes with a standard hybrid powertrain. Ford announced Wednesday that the 2.0-liter EcoBoost will replace it as the base engine, with the hybrid now commanding a $1500 premium, according to Ford Authority. That’s a big loss on paper, though in the real world, you were unlikely to find a base Maverick hybrid without at least $1500 of markup anyway. The move to make the hybrid an extra-cost option should help with the supply issue, as demand for the 40-mpg-plus compact pickup has been stronger than Ford expected. Realistically, it also helps capture some of the added markup that dealers have been applying and putting it in the Blue Oval account.Much More MaverickAs Ford confirmed to The Drive, the Maverick’s base price of $24,995 with destination charges remains. That’ll just be a 2.0-liter turbo model. If you want the 2.5-liter hybrid, you’ll have to spend at least $26,495. If you want to order a 2023 Maverick, that’s too bad, as the pickup is sold out for this model year. We expect orders for the 2024 Maverick to open shortly. New Toyota Land Cruiser Teaser Confirms Relation with Lexus GX

Toyota has released new teaser photos showing the upcoming Land Cruiser SUV.The Land Cruiser is poised to return to the U.S. after a brief hiatus. We expected that it would share a lot with the 2024 Lexus GX, and these photos furthers that suspicion. The much-anticipated return of the Toyota Land Cruiser to the U.S. is quickly coming into focus—sort of. While we still can’t see as much as we’d like in the latest teaser photos Toyota has provided of the new SUV, these new images do appear to confirm that the upcoming 4×4 will be a close sibling to the recently revealed 2024 Lexus GX. ToyotaLexusViewed side by side, the two models have a nearly identical profile, with an upright windshield, a side window line that kicks up near the rear door, and a squared-off rearmost pillar. The Toyota’s front end will likely look quite different than the Lexus’s, as we previewed in our recent illustration of the new Land Cruiser that shows what this new model could look like. The teasers show the new Land Cruiser alongside a classic FJ40 model, meaning Toyota is sure to play up the nameplate’s off-road history. A TRD Pro model is all but certain, likely with many of the same rugged styling tweaks and mechanical upgrades as the GX’s Overtrail trim level. The two are also expected to share powertrains, which means a 349-hp twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 as standard and an unspecified hybrid drivetrain coming later on.More on the New CruiserToyota says that the Land Cruiser is “on the horizon,” so we may see it in full by the end of this year. The Land Cruiser was previously discontinued in the U.S. after the 2021 model year, but it hasn’t taken long for Toyota to revive the nameplate on our shores. This content is imported from poll. Triumph 400 Vs Harley 440 Vs Royal Enfield – Price, Specs, VFM

New Triumph 400In spite of the attractive base price point, Classic 350 is no match for the sheer performance and equipment that Triumph Speed 400 is offeringFor a long time, Royal Enfield has dominated the 350cc to 500cc space with a slew of motorcycles. Honda, Jawa and Yezdi brands tried to steal its thunder for some time. But Royal Enfield has soldiered on. Now, it has two new contenders with legacy pedigree brand names attached to them. We’re talking about Triumph Speed 400 and Harley-Davidson X440.These two have a higher chance of disrupting RE’s dominance than the others. Especially Triumph. With disruptive pricing, Speed 400 challenges the current champion Classic 350 in a way we had never imagined. Let’s take a look at how Triumph’s latest entrant holds up to the recently launched X440 along with others.Triumph Speed 400 Vs RivalsOne look at the spec sheet below is enough to see that Triumph Speed 400 has the most technologically advanced and powerful engine. Harley-Davidson X440 has the most torque and it makes this torque at just 4000 RPM too.Royal Enfield Classic 350 has the weakest powertrain on paper and Yezdi comes off as the most underrated. Triumph Speed 400 is the only one to get ride-by-wire for smooth throttle transitions and boasts a slipper clutch along with Yezdi and Honda. Speed 400 has the tightest packaging too.Triumph Speed 400 Vs Rivals Spec ComparisonIt has the shortest wheelbase, 26-degree rake and 102mm trail and is the lightest of this bunch too. Dual-channel ABS is standard with all the models. Adding to it, Speed 400 boasts fattest tyres in this segment (110-section front, 150-section rear), completed with 43mm USD telescopic front forks and rear mono-shock.Sporty handling and explosive performance crown belongs to Triumph, among this list. It doesn’t have the largest disc brakes on this list, but a low 176 kg weight should negate that need. Royal Enfield Scram 411 offers the highest suspension travel in this list. In terms of seat height, Triumph is one of the lowest among this bunch.Changing narratives for the 350cc to 500cc retro machines?Until Royal Enfield’s new 450cc liquid-cooled engine debuts, Triumph Speed 400 seems to be the motorcycle that does it all. Triumph does miss out on Bluetooth connectivity. But considering everything it is offering at the impressive Rs. 2.23 lakh (introductory, ex-sh) pricing, it is easily forgivable.Triumph Speed 400 Vs Rivals Price ComparisonAs seen in the pricing table above, Classic 350 does start at an attractive 1.90 lakh (ex-sh) price point. This is just Rs. 33,000 less than Speed 400’s introductory price and Rs. 39,000 less than X440. But Classic 350 prices go till Rs. 2.21 lakh (ex-sh). And at that point, Triumph Speed 400 is just Rs. 2,000 more expensive and offers a plethora of goodness that Classic 350 just doesn’t. Harley-Davidson X440 is still the most expensive on this list going till Rs. 2.69 lakh for top S trim. More

Fiat’s New 600e Is a Chic Electric Successor to the 500X SUV

Fiat unveiled a new EV for the European market called the 600e that slots in above the electric version of the 500.The 600e is a few inches shorter than the 500X crossover, the only model Fiat currently sells in the U.S. It is rated at 249 miles of range in Europe. The 600e has 154 horsepower reaches 62 mph in a claimed 9.0 seconds. It is not expected to reach the U.S. market as Fiat prepares to launch the 500e here next year.Last fall, Jeep unveiled its first EV, a tiny crossover called the Avenger for the European market. Now Fiat has created its own spin on the same platform, revealing the new 600e today with a cute design, solid all-electric range, and a chic-looking interior. Fiat says the electric underpinnings bring more interior space and an “increased Dolce Vita feel.” We’ll have to figure out a new test to measure whatever that means.FiatThe 600 name hails from the 1950s, when Fiat launched a slightly bigger alternative to the iconic 500, and the new 600e occupies a similar space in the current Fiat lineup. At 164.2 inches long, the 600e stretches about 14.0 inches further than the 500e. But it’s around 8.0 inches shy of a 2023 Kia Rio, among the smallest cars on sale in the U.S. today. The 600e still fits five passengers and offers nearly 13 cubic feet of space in the cargo area.Like the Avenger, the 600e uses a 54.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, providing over 249 miles of range on Europe’s WLTP test cycle, which typically returns more optimistic numbers than the EPA’s. In city driving, which will be the 600e’s comfort zone, Fiat claims a range of over 373 miles. Fiat says the 600e can charge at up to 100 kW, replenishing the battery to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. A single electric motor sends 154 horsepower to the front wheels, and Fiat says that the 600e can reach 62 mph in 9.0 seconds. FiatThe 600e features similarly rounded styling to the 500e, with lots of smooth surfacing and soft-looking, friendly features. Like the 500e, the oval LED headlights envelop a piece of body-colored trim, mirrored by the running lights below. Within the wheel arches—accented by black trim that extends down the side skirts—are 18-inch wheels with a snazzy design, at least on the higher trims. There are “600e” badges on every side of the car, with the logo in the rear incorporating the colors of the Italian flag. The ovoid styling continues inside, where the curved dashboard sprouts a 10.3-inch screen that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is complemented by a 7.0-inch digital gauge display, and the 600e also packs a wireless charger and plenty of USB ports. The ambient lighting can be set to eight different colors and there’s also a hands-free power liftgate and a six-speaker sound system. The driver’s seat is power adjustable and offers a back-massage function as standard, which Fiat says will help you enter “complete Italian spa time.”More Tiny Fiat EVsThe 600e will add a hybrid powertrain by the middle of next year, after the electric version reaches Italian customers starting in September. Beyond that, it’s unclear what Fiat has planned for the 600e. The 600e is just a few inches shorter than the 500X, which has been soldiering on since 2016. But Fiat’s CEO told Car and Driver last year that there will not be a replacement for the 500X in the U.S., with the brand fully focused on the 500e that hits the American market in 2024, so the 600e will presumably remain forbidden fruit. This content is imported from poll.
