We’ve known for a while that the next-generation Porsche Macan would support an electric model, and according to Porsche, the electric Macan’s production will commence in late 2022. Porsche also hinted that electric Boxster and Cayman sports cars are coming, too.

“We are expecting [electric Macan] production to start at the end of 2022,” said Michael Steiner, Porsche’s executive board member for development. That means the next-generation Macan will launch as a 2023 model, and it will arrive alongside a new electric crossover from Audi, perhaps the Q4 e-tron.

As for the electric Boxster and Cayman, there’s no surprise here. Porsche has been touting ideas to electrify its entry-level sports cars for almost 10 years now. Their arrival is still up in the air, though, as Porsche says the final decision has yet to be made. The automaker did announce, however, that they will be built on an even newer, not yet announced electric platform. This platform will be different from Audi and Porsche’s PPE electric platform, which the electric Macan will utilize.

Expect to see more news on additional upcoming electric Porsches in the future. In the meantime, we’ll continue doing launches in Porsche Taycans.
