    Much awaited launch of the new gen Royal Enfield Classic 350 is near – First undisguised spy shots

    Royal Enfield has dominated the sub-400 cc retro segment for several years with bestsellers such as Classic 350. However, things could change dramatically in this space in the coming months with availability of new products such as Jawa and Honda H’ness (CB350). There are talks that Bajaj will also be entering this space with launch of a cruiser named ‘Neuron‘. However, this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Bajaj.
    Even though Royal Enfield has updated Classic 350 to BS6, it won’t be enough to match offerings of rival motorcycles. This is why the company had planned to launch next-gen Classic 350 during the festive season. However, this did not happen due to corona virus, supply chain bottlenecks and production constraints – all have been cited as reasons for the delay in launch of Classic 350.
    But it seems that Royal Enfield is getting ready to launch the new gen Classic 350 in the coming weeks as an undisguised production-ready variant has now been spied on public road. Caught on camera by automotive enthusiast Krishna, it looks like 2021 Classic 350 is nearer than one would expect.
    Next-gen Classic 350 design and features
    As revealed in spy shots, next-gen Classic 350 continues with the core design of its predecessor. Similarities with the current model include features like round headlamp, chrome rear view mirrors, teardrop-shaped turn indicators, broad rear fenders, and chrome plated exhaust. Talking about the wheels, it is not certain if production variant will have spoke wheels or alloy wheels.

    Although the test mules have been spotted with new body panels, it is expected that production variant will continue to focus on retro styling that RE fans prefer. However, to keep the motorcycle relevant to evolving market trends, next-gen Classic 350 will come with features such as LED DRL, semi-digital instrument console and new paint options. Just like Meteor 350, even the Classic 350 will not get LED headlamp.

    Next-gen Classic 350 has been built on the new modular J platform. This platform will be used for several other next-gen products that Royal Enfield will launch in the near future. It is expected that the new platform will be better in terms of handling, manoeuvrability and comfort. It could also be lighter, something that will improve power to weight ratio. This could make next-gen Classic 350 more agile in city conditions.

    Powering next-gen Classic 350 will be an all-new 350 cc engine that will have the advanced SOHC setup. In comparison, the current 350 cc engine utilizes the archaic tappet-valve (push rod) system. It is expected that the new engine will fare better in terms of responsiveness and acceleration. Vibrations are also likely to be reduced. The new engine is capable of generating 20.2 bhp of max power at 6100 rpm and 27 Nm of max torque at 4000 rpm. This is mated to a 5-speed transmission.

    In terms of tech upgrades, next-gen Classic 350 could get Bluetooth connectivity. It will allow users to access a range of features via their smartphone. Rest of the equipment such as suspension, disk brakes and dual-channel ABS will be the same as the current model.     Yamaha Sales, Exports Break Up Nov 2020 – FZ, Ray, Fascino, R15, MT15, FZ25

    Yamaha India reported growth in wholesale domestic dispatches and loss in exports in November 2020

    The recently concluded festive season saw most manufacturers report wholesale growth. And that’s true for Yamaha too. Dispatches were up at 53,208 units, up 35 percent from 39,405 units. Volume gain stood at 13,803 units.
    In this case growth looks even more grand keeping in mind low base sales a year earlier. An improvement in December will further help strengthen Q4 2020 performance. For the most part, sales improvement for said period is expected going by sales in Oct and November.
    Then again, December may just prove to worth everyone’s time considering the range of discounts available. With an expected price hike in January 2020, dealers are liberal with end of year discounts and deals. This proves to be a two-fold benefit for manufacturers. The discount itself, and the perceived gain considering new model year vehicles are always costlier.

    Yamaha FZ, the manufacturer’s top selling motorcycle saw dispatches reported at 16,239 units. Of the complete portfolio, FZ sales was the only one reported at a decline. Sales fell 6.37 percent, down to 16,239 units from 17,344 units at volume lost at just over 1.1k units. Consequently, FZ managed to retain lead to account for 30.52 percent share of all domestic dispatches for Yamaha.

    Currently, the company only sells a handful of products. Ray scooter sales were next best for Yamaha at 28.64 percent share. Dispatches grew 101.19 percent. Up at 15,238 units from 7,574 units. Wholesales more than doubled at volume gain of 7,664 units. Fascino scooter sales surpassed the 10k unit mark. At 10,992 units dispatched, YoY growth stood at 43.91 percent. Volume gain was at 3,354 units, up from 7,638 units. Altogether, three of the top sellers account for almost 80 percent of brand sales.
    R15 sales growth was healthy. Compare to last November, sales growth was 52.93 percent. Sales was reported at 5,848 units, up from 3,824 units. Dispatches grew by over 2k units. And though growth was positive, R15 fails to be a top seller at Yamaha. MT15 sales were even lower at 4,608 units. Although volume is low, it was the highest growth at 203.96 percent. A year earlier, sales was as low as 1,516 units. Volume gain stood at over 3k units. FZ25 dispatches were at a mere 283 units, at 68.45 percent YoY growth. Numbers for Nov 2019 stood at 168 units. While the majority of products sold gained ground, it’s left to be seen if Yamaha is capable of selling 50k units on a monthly basis in a consistent manner.

    Notably, Yamaha FZ isn’t just a bestseller in the domestic market but also leads the export chart convincingly. Exports were reported at 8,101 units, down 9.52 percent. As can be seen, sales fell from 8,953 units. Ray exports fell to 1,939 units from 4,379 units at 55.72 percent YoY sales decline. Crix was the only export parameter that was in the green. FZ25 finds more takers overseas than here. Exports fell to 1,304 units from 1,764 units at 26 percent decline. Saluto numbers fell drastically at 87.33 percent, down to 689 units from 5,436 units. Here volume loss was at a high of 4,747 units.
    SZ sales fell to 684 units from 1,596 units. YoY sales decline stood at 57.14 percent. Numbers fell by 912 units. In fact the remainder of the export list is just as low. R15 numbers fell to 280 units from 1,204 units. At 76.74 percent decline, volume contracted by 924 units. But export loss doesn’t end there. MT15 exports fell to a mere 120 units from 472 units.
    Alpha exports were down at 112 units. Saluto RX exports were at a paltry 36 units, down from 1,596 units. And fashion same in last at 3 units. Given that most products exported saw numbers fall, overall exports are at a noticeable decline of 44.46 percent. Exports fell to 15,034 units from 27,067 units. More

    The Royal Enfield Himalayan is set to receive a minor model year update and the prototype has been spotted testing in Chennai again. While there are no significant visual changes to the motorcycle, it will incorporate new features.

    While it is not visible in this spy shot, the 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan is equipped with the Tripper Navigation feature that debuted on the recently launched Meteor. The Tripper Navigation is essentially a smartphone-enabled turn-by-turn navigation system.
    So, it is reasonable to expect an updated instrument cluster with at least one small circular dial with colour display for navigation just like the one of Meteor 350. Going with previous Royal Enfield updates, it is reasonable to expect new colour themes.
    The spy shot above is credit to automotive enthusiast Hidayath, who managed to click it while the motorcycle was on test in Adyar, Chennai. The rider of the Himalayan on test was wearing Royal Enfield accessories – shoes, jacket, gloves and helmet.

    Specifications
    When it comes to engine specifications, we don’t expect any major changes since the 411 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine received BS6 emissions upgrade not long ago. We are expecting the motor to make headway in the refinement department. In its current state of tune, the fuel-injected motor has 24.3 hp and 32 Nm of torque. The 5-speed gearbox will be carried forward.
    The 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan is expected to be introduced in within the first quarter of next year. The retro classic specialist is also gearing up for a comprehensive product launch campaign in 2021. The eagerly awaited next generation Classic 350 based on the new J Platform is slated to introduced in the first half of next year. It will soon be followed by more new models in the 350 cc space. A flagship 650 cc cruiser based on the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 platform is also in advanced stages of development.

    In November 2020, the adventure tourer managed to clock 1,550 units at a YoY growth of 95%. The KTM 250 family which includes the Adventure variant as well found 1,590 takers. In comparison, its rival Bajaj Dominar 400 posted sales of 856 units. With the two wheeler industry in general showing signs of improvement, the Himalayan is expected to maintain its sales momentum. The upcoming update would go a long way in enhancing its appeal.

    Hero MotoCorp Sales, Exports Nov 2020 – Splendor, Pleasure, Xpulse, Xtreme

    Hero MotoCorp’s claim to fame is the mass market commuter Splendor motorcycle. It’s the fulcrum around which the majority of the manufacturer’s business depends on. The motorcycle isn’t only a top seller for the company. But one that dominates the entire two-wheeler industry.
    In November 2020, Splendor wholesales was reported at 1,97,899 units. That’s 8.88 percent YoY growth at volume gain of 16,142 units, up from 1,81,757 units. It captured 34.36 percent share of all Hero MotorCorp dispatches for the month.
    Of course, Splendor’s splendid performance doesn’t end there. Over time, Splendor range was expanded to include the Plus and iSmart variant. There’s also a Black and accent edition. A comprehensive range gives Hero a convincing lead in the 100cc and 110cc segments. This also means, cumulative Splendor sales are even higher.
    Addition of a further 50,499 units took total Splendor dispatches closer to 2.5 lakh units last month. HF Deluxe was a close second at 31.15 percent share. Dispatch grew 12.46 percent, up 19,882 units at 1,79,426 units from 1,59,544 units. In fact, both motorcycles accounted for just 75 percent of all domestic dispatches.

    The remainder of Hero’s portfolio is unable to replicate quite the same success. Hero Passion accounted for just under 10 percent share at 36.04 percent growth. Wholesales grew to 53,768 units from 39,525 units at volume gain of 14,243 units. Glamour sales fell. At 8.21 percent YoY decline, dispatches contracted to 39,899 units from 43,470 units. Though the company sells motorcycles by the dozen, so far, it’s been unable to replicate the same success with scooters.
    Pleasure scooter sales grew at 6.67 percent, up at 19,707 units from 18,474 units. Destini 125 sales growth was robust at 100 percent. Sales doubled at 15,515 units from 7,744 units. Maestro sales grew to 12,412 units, up from 7,143 units. Hero finds even fewer takers for its higher displacement bikes. Xtreme 160R, a fairly new launch saw 5,460 units dispatched. XPulse 200 performance crumbled. Wholesales contracted to 1,372 units from 2,936 units.

    And while Hero MotoCorp exercises complete dominance in the domestic front, its exports were at a bare minimal. Those numbers were as low as 16,801 in totality. Compare this with domestic wholesales of 5,75,957 units. At home, the company reported 13.80 percent YoY growth, up from 5,06,094 units.
    In the export front, Splendor again topped the list with total 4,764 units exported. Both Splendor variant exports were similar at 2,454 units, and 2,310 units. HF Deluxe followed with 2,782 units. That of course was on the back of healthy growth at just under 50 percent, up from 1,872 units. Hunk exports stood at 2,549 units. Another product not on sale here. Xpulse 200 exports were reported at 1,434 units. In fact, that’s more than what was sold in India last month.
    Achiever exports grew to 1,266 units. Duet was just shy of 1.1k units. Both from the Xtreme range, 200, and 150 saw numbers reported at 980, and 827, respectively. Currently, both bikes are not available for domestic sales – replaced by Xtreme 160R. While all the above products reported growth, Maestro exports fell. At 26.84 percent decline, sales fell to just under 500 units. Precisely, 496. Numbers reported for Destini 125 are on the same spectrum at 432 units. Last on the list with lowest export units were reserved for Hero Glamour. The glamour it enjoys in the domestic market is clearly lost overseas. Numbers were as low as 179 units.
    December deals and discounts from Hero
    In keeping the momentum going at the fag end of 2020, dealers have introduced a wide range of discounts. December deals are a great encouragement for potential customers. Especially since the preceding festive season saw most buyers schedule purchases then. And in the hope the Q4 ends positively, December proves to be a decent month for deals and discounts.
    This makes sense as it’s an ideal way of ensuring MY20 stock is dispatched before the year ends. From the customer’s perspective, year end purchases prove to be a saving given the price hikes initiated in the new year when new model year vehicles are sold.     Top 10 Motorcycles 200cc To 500cc Nov 2020 – Classic 350, Meteor, Pulsar 220

    Five of the top selling motorcycles for November 2020 in the mid-displacement category were Royal Enfields – with 75.6% market share

    The mid-premium motorcycle segment in India has been witnessing a lot of product launch activities in the recent years. This segment is populated with eclectic mix of feature-rich products which offer fine balance of cost and performance.
    While the volume-oriented commuter motorcycle space which is dominated by a few brands is more of less saturated, OEMs are betting big on the medium displacement segment, particularly the 200 to 500 cc sub-space.
    Top selling motorcycles – November 2020
    Royal Enfield, despite going through a bit of a rough patch, still dominates this niche by a huge margin. The immensely popular RE Classic 350 which is slated to be replaced by a next generation model sometime next year tops the sales chart in November 2020 with 35,951 units at a YoY decline of 8.73%.
    The long running Bajaj Pulsar 220 comes in at a distant second with a tally of 7,114 units. Interestingly, the old horse posted a YoY sales growth of 26%. Royal Enfield’s first of the new generation models, the Meteor 350 started off with 7,031 units, sealing the third spot. We expect the Thunderbird replacement to witness even better numbers as the company streamlines production in the coming months.

    The obsolete Bullet 350 witnessed a slide of almost 50% but it still managed to capture 4th spot in the highly lucrative segment with 6,513 units on the board. Honda’s answer to Royal Enfield’s utter dominance, the H’ness CB 350, shows potential as evident from its sales performance of 4,067 units which is impressive considering that it is being retailed only through BigWing premium outlets. As Honda ramps up production and sets up more and more BigWing stores across the country, sales are only set to increase.
    Middle-order and tail-enders
    The Bullet Electra 350 is the 4th RE in the top 10 list 3,490 units to its credit and it is followed by the KTM 250 series (1,590 units) which receive a boost in the form of Adventure variant. Coming in at 8th is the 5th RE product, the Himalayan, at 1,550 units. Bajaj’s Avenger 220 and Dominar 400 finished 9th and 10th with 1,030 and 856 units respectively.

    The Dominar 250 almost matched its bigger-engined sibling with sales of 835 units last month. KTM 390, Husqvarna 250, Suzuki Gixxer 250, Yamaha FZ25, TVS Apache 310 and Mahindra Mojo find themselves becoming a part of the also-ran brigade.

    TVS Sales, Exports Break Up Nov 2020 – XL Super, Jupiter, Apache, Ntorq

    TVS Motor reported growth in domestic wholesales and exports for November 2020

    TVS domestic wholesales for November 2020 was reported at 2,47,789 units. Up 29.58 percent from 1,91,222 units a year earlier. Volume gain stood at 56,567 units. The manufacturer’s moped proved to be a big winner. And, sat atop the table. 70,750 XL units were sold at 22.94 percent gain. Wholesales grew by 13,200 units. Up from 57,550 units.
    The brand’s bestselling scooter, Jupiter was in the green. YoY growth was 52.72 percent at volume gain of over 21k units. Wholesales grew to 62,626 units. Up from 41,007 units. Both top performers collectively claimed over 50 percent of company dispatches. XL moped at 28.55 percent. And Jupiter at 25.27 percent.
    Apache series, the manufacturer’s wide ranging product triumphed at third spot. Wholesales were up 40.07 percent at 16.77 percent share. Volume gain stood at 11,889 units. Unit dispatches grew from 29,668 to 41,557.
    RR310, the largest cc offering is listed on its own, and accounted for 281 units. Though a small number, it’s a huge improvement on the 112 units reported a year earlier. Ntorq’s performance remained more or less flat. Dispatches gained 1,597 units. Up at 28,987 from 27,390.

    Reported gain on Sport was the highest for Nov 20 owing to its low base number. YoY growth is 79.38 percent. Dispatch grew by 5,654 units, up at 12,777 from 7,123. Radeon gain is healthy on a low base number at 28.27 percent growth. Numbers are higher at 11,602 from 9,045. Volume gain was just over 2.5k units. Star City wholesales is up at 7,793 units from 5,105 units at a gain of 2,688 units.
    Of models on sale, Pep+ was the only product to report sales decline. Numbers fell to 6,870 from 8,439 units. Volume contraction stood at 1,569 units, following 18.59 percent decline. Zest posted single digit growth. At 8.17 percent, wholesales grew to 4,447 units from 4,111 units. Wego and Victor are not on sale now. iQube, TVS’ electric offering, iQube dispatches stood at 99.

    While Star City is a lower volume product for TVS in the domestic market, its exports are most promising for the manufacturer. Star City and Star City 125 exports covered more than 70 percent ground in overseas markets. Star City numbers were reported at 62.12 percent gain.
    Exports grew to 24,660 units from 15,211 taking it to the top of the leaderboard at volume gain of 9,449 units. Star City 125 lost ground at 10.54 percent decline. Exports fell to 19,854 units from 22,192 units. Apache series exports grew 45.96 percent. Numbers grew to 9,115 units from 6,245 units.
    Sport exports fell 18.32 percent at volume decline of 985 units. Exports declined to 4,392 units. Down from 5,377 units. Ntorq growth was 54.24 percent. Numbers were just over 3k, up from 1,956 units at volume gain of 1,061 units. XL’s global performance is meagre at just over a thousand units. Exports declined by 37.53 percent. Down from 1,668 units.
    Victor and Wego are still being manufactured for overseas markets. Victor exports stood at 800. And Wego at 138 units. Radeon exports fell noticeably. Down to 120 units from 2,120 units. That’s volume loss of 2k units. 68 RR310 units were exported, and 12 of Jupiter. Total exports grew at 10.88 percent. Up at 63,218 units from 57,014 units. More

    Himalayan Owner Modifies His RE With Suzuki 400cc Parallel Twin Engine

    Royal Enfield Himalayan is one of the most popular adventure tourer motorcycles in India. Apart from a decent experience on roads, its well proportioned dynamics provides a good off-roading experience. Although, its low power and torque output could be a slight bummer on rough terrains.
    Fans of Royal Enfield are of the opinion that Himalayan should be offered with a larger engine, probably a twin-cylinder unit like the Interceptor and Continental GT which utilize a 650cc parallel-twin engine. As per reports, a more powerful Himalayan is in the making. But it will not come anytime soon, hopefully it arrives in 2022.
    But before that, a workshop in Punjab has modified single cylinder Himalayan into a twin-cylinder Himalayan. Vlogger Abhinav Bhatt has shared a detailed video about this modified Himalayan Parallel Twin.
    Updated Powertrain
    The workshop has used a 400cc DOHC parallel-twin engine from a 1990s Suzuki GS400e. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and returns an output of 39 bhp and 28 Nm of torque. That is 15 horses more than the stock Himalayan. Moreover, this unit is a lot smoother and refined than the 411cc single-cylinder unit despite being a carbureted machine.

    Plus the six-speed gearbox ensures a wider spread of torque which results in a linear delivery of power. According to Bhatt, this bike revs more cleanly and due to a twin-cylinder setup vibrations are almost nil. This modified bike gets two 36 mm Mikuni carburettors which ensures a better mixture of air and fuel.
    Better Performance
    Moreover, this twin-cylinder engine has been fitted into the same chassis with only minor tweakings to its dynamics. This bike now returns around 25 kmpl as average fuel efficiency. There is no alteration to Himalayan’s design what-so-ever barring the additional exhaust of the extra cylinder. Also, the exhaust note is throaty yet very refined and would definitely make for an effortless cruiser.
    Abhinav claims, this modified Himalayan can do 140 kmph easily, without any exaggeration. The owner claims to have clocked a top speed of 150 kmph on the twin-cylinder Himalayan. This is certainly a lot higher than what a stock Himlayan could achieve.

    2021 KTM RC 200 Enters Production – Spied Undisguised For First Time

    Ahead of its expected launch in Jan 2021, the all new KTM RC 200 has now entered production at the company plant in Chakan near Pune

    KTM has had a busy 2020, especially in India, where the brand launched Adventure 250 and 390 this year. Gave a minor facelift to Duke 250 and Duke 125. In comparison, the RC series did not get much updates. Except for a colour update a few weeks ago – they were more or less left untouched.
    But we knew, that something was brewing with the KTM RC range. There was a regular flow of spy shots – first from Europe, and then from South East Asia. Reportedly, KTM has been working on giving the RC 125, 200, 250 and 390 – a thorough update. From updates to the engine, to the design, as well as chassis – the 2021 model year KTM RCs will be a completely new machine.
    If it was not for the Covid19 pandemic, it is likely the new RC range would have already made their global debut – at the now cancelled 2020 EICMA. Just like how the 390 ADV made its global debut at the 2019 EICMA.

    First undisguised photo of the all new KTM RC 200 has now been leaked, thanks to Tushar – who has shared the photo on Rushlane Spylane Facebook group. The leaked spy photo of the 2021 KTM RC200 has been clicked on what looks like the production line. Considering that KTM RC, Duke, ADV motorcycles under 400cc are exclusively produced at the Bajaj plant in Pune – it is more or less certain that the photo is from the same plant in India. You can even notice Husqvarna motorcycles in the background.

    The lone spy shot gives a clear look at the front design. As noted in the spy shot, it gets a halogen unit – similar in design that is on offer with the Duke 200. The halogen unit is surrounded by LED DRL. There also seems to be a larger visor. Graphics are new, while the Black and Orange colour scheme is carried forward. Expect more colour options on offer as well.
    Design Updates
    If you notice closely, the disc brake setup in the front is different to the existing model. Instead of being attached to the wheel hub, the front disc is attached to the alloy-spokes. This is clearly noticeable in an early spy shot of new RC 200, seen below. In addition, there also seems to be a new rear subframe, side-mounted exhaust has been replaced by under-belly unit.

    In comparison to the current model, the changes mainly come in the form of a redesigned fairing, new set of wheels and larger windscreen. The fuel tank is noticeably bigger while the tail section is more ‘pointy’ than before. Of course, the TFT instrument console (probably with more functions) will be added as well.
    Engine
    Current KTM RC 200 engine in its BS6 form; is powered by a 199.5 cc single cylinder engine, rated to deliver 25 hp @ 10k rpm and 19.2 Nm @ 8k rpm. It is likely that the new RC 200 gets this same engine, as Bajaj – KTM has invested good enough in upgrading this engine to meet BS6 / Euro5 emission norms. This engine is mated to a 6 speed gearbox.
    We expect KTM to officially take the covers off the next-generation RC 200 in the coming weeks – most likely in Jan 2021. As has been the case most of the time, expect the bike to be launched first in India, followed by launch in other countries around the world. Prices are expected to start in the range of Rs 2.1 lakh, about Rs 10k more than the current RC 200. Later in the year 2021, expect the launch of updated RC 125, RC 250 and long-awaited RC 390 as well. More
