BMW Motorrad has already discontinued the G 310 R and G 310 GS; the only one on sale is the G 310 RR
As was being anticipated, BMW has hinted that its new twin-cylinder 450cc platform will work as a replacement for the 310 range. The new 450cc platform is better aligned with the stricter emission norms and A2 license mandates in Europe. It also meets the current consumer preferences that favour an optimal blend of performance, practicality and affordability. Let’s get more details on these developments.
New 450cc BMW bikes – What to expect?
Confirmation about the new 450cc BMW bikes was provided by BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch. Specific details of these new bikes were not disclosed. The strategy is likely to be similar to the G310 range. The all-new F 450 GS was recently unveiled at the 2025 EICMA. Aligning with the G310 strategy, one can expect a roadster version and a faired version to be introduced in the future.
However, an exact launch timeline of these new BMW 450cc bikes is not known. It is likely that market response to the F 450 GS will be studied before launching the next set of products. Any improvement or upgrade possibilities can be explored with this approach.
In the case of the G310 range, the G 310 R and G 310 GS were launched simultaneously in India in 2018. Based on that, it is possible that the next 450cc BMW bike could be the roadster version. It will take on rivals such as KTM 390 Duke, Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z and Harley-Davidson X440.
BMW could also be exploring the possibility of a faired bike based on the 450cc platform. In the G310 family, the G 310 RR is based on the TVS Apache RR 310. BMW’s 450cc faired bike will face some serious competition from the likes of KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3 and Aprilia RS 457. In Europe, the BMW 450cc faired bike will take on the Honda CBR500R. TVS and Norton will have their own bikes based on BMW’s new 450cc platform.
Shared equipment
BMW has not revealed the details of its upcoming 450cc bikes. One can expect equipment and features to be borrowed from the F 450 GS. Powering the F 450 GS is a new 450cc, twin-cylinder inline engine that generates 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission and equipped with a secondary drive mounted on the left side.
Keeping in mind the needs of new riders, the BMW F 450 GS is equipped with an Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). This works with the Shift Assistant Pro, allowing seamless upshifts and downshifts without manually operating the clutch. This feature can be useful for seasoned riders as well. ERC is likely to be offered across the 450cc range.
For the roadster and the faired 450cc bikes, the wheel size is likely to be 17-inch at both ends. These bikes will have shorter-travel suspension in comparison to the F 450 GS. Braking setup could comprise 310 mm and 240 mm disc brakes at the front and rear, respectively. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro is expected to be offered as standard across the 450cc range.
