41-Mile 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster for Sale, Basically Brand Spankin’ New

  • A 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster with 41 miles on the odometer is a premium listing for sale on the Bring a Trailer website.
  • The Porsche is finished in Guards Red, is powered by a 3.2-liter flat-six, and was never registered for street use.
  • It comes with the original sales receipt, factory manuals, and two sets of keys.

The 911 Speedster is a special car, and the 991-generation 911 was just given its sendoff with its own Speedster variant—only 1948 of which were built. It’s quite special: chopped-off roof, lowered windshield, a fairing behind each seat, and, for the 991-generation Speedster, a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six from the venerated GT3 mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. But, if you want something even rarer, you could always head over to Bring a Trailer and slap a bid on this pristine 41-mile 1989 911 Speedster, which was never even registered for street use.

In 1989, Porsche revealed the Speedster for the 911’s 25th anniversary, in homage to the revered 356 Speedster. Only around 800 were brought to the U.S. This particular example was sold new by Jack Daniels Motors of Fair Lawn, New Jersey (no relation to the Tennessee distiller), and was shipped to Los Angeles after being purchased new for $78,001, then placed into storage.

The car was acquired by the selling dealer a few months ago from the original owner. It’s the closest thing to factory fresh—although it has four new tires, the valves were adjusted, the engine bay and fuel system were cleaned out, and the door-handle seals, decklid shocks, engine insulation pad, brake hoses, fluids, filters, and belts have all been replaced.

The 1989 Speedster was equipped with a 3.2-liter flat-six that made 217 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque from the factory, and on this particular example, that aforementioned service was completed by the dealer after the car was recovered from more than 30 years of storage in California. It’s finished in Guards Red, with few exterior imperfections. Only a chip near the Porsche emblem on the hood and a minuscule scratch on the left side of the rear decklid are noted in the listing.

The lucky winning bidder will get the original sales receipt, two sets of keys, and all of the factory manuals with this crisp 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster. That person will pay a premium price: at this writing, the current bid is $200,000, with the auction continuing until Monday, February 3.
