      Royal Enfield is expanding its product portfolio with launch of one new motorcycle in the 250cc-750cc range every three months

      Royal Enfield has an interesting array of new models planned for launch in the New Year. These include the next gen RE Classic 350, Interceptor 350, facelifted Interceptor / Continental 650 and a 650cc cruiser bike. But ahead of all that, Royal Enfield will launch an updated version of the Himalayan.
      Launch was expected to take place last month, but that did not happen. But now, first units of the updated Himalayan motorcycle have started arriving at company dealership. Here are latest spy shots – credit to automotive enthusiast Ram Prasath and Gideon Tony.
      2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan
      As can be seen in the spy image, 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan comes with an all new shade of Green. Apart from the new colour, it also gets Tripper Navigation system, that is already on offer with Meteor 350. The Meteor 350 was the first bike to receive this feature which will now be extended to other bikes in the company lineup.
      Tripper Navigation allows riders to connect their smartphones to the system via Bluetooth and receive turn navigation details. Along with this Tripper Navigation, the 2021 RE Himalayan will likely see updates in the form of a new headlamp which will sport an LED ring to work as a DRL.

      New colour options are also be a part of the update. The current Himalayan is presented in color options of Granite Black, Snow White, Sleet Grey, Gravel Grey and Rock Red. New colours include Green, White and Silver.
      Engine and Transmission
      The 2021 RE Himalayan will be powered by the same 411cc, single cylinder engine which was recently updated to BS6 emission standards. This engine makes 24.3 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm torque at 4,000 to 4500 rpm. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed gearbox.
      2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan will be equipped with disc brakes at both ends while it will receive dual channel ABS for enhanced braking performance. Suspension duties will be handled via telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock unit at the rear.
      As per the leaked pricing, new Himalayan is expected to get costlier by about Rs 20,000 – taking the price to about Rs 2.51 lakh. Official launch is expected to take place in the coming days.

      Post this, Royal Enfield has plans to launch the Classic 350 new generation. It expected by April 2021 while the updated 650 Twins with alloys, new Tripper turn-by-turn navigation – will launch either this month of next. More

      Ather Energy, the makers of the 450X electric scooter and 450 Plus, has inaugurated a new showroom at Ather Space, at Ambawadi, near Panjarapole Char Rasta, Ahmedabad in association with Kataria Group. This new showroom was led by a group of Ather customers who wanted to be the first to experience this new and highly connected showroom.
      In Ahmedabad, Ather 450X is priced at Rs.1,61,426 while the Ather 450 Plus carries a price tag of Rs.1,42,416. Prices are ex-sh. Ather Space in Ahmedabad follows that of the company’s first experience center opened in Bengaluru (Indiranagar) in June 2018 and the two showrooms opened in Chennai (Wallace Garden Street)and Mumbai earlier in January 2021.
      The electric scooter maker has collaborated with Kataria Group in Ahmedabad, Kamal Motors in Mumbai and BU Bhandari in Pune. Ather Space is customer friendly with complete sales and service. The Ather 450X will be on display and the service center will offer complete support to owners.

      The Ather experience center in Ahmedabad is designed to be dynamic, tactile and interactive, offering buyers an in-depth knowledge of all that has gone into the making of the new Ather 450X electric scooter. Customers can view a naked scooter, inspect every key component that makes up its interiors and can interact and learn more of its functions and performance via an interactive digital display.

      This new showroom in Ahmedabad comes at a time when the company had been receiving outstanding response from buyers in Gujarat. Test rides can be scheduled via the website and bookings can also be placed.
      Following this showroom, the company also plans to open an experience center in Surat as a part of its Phase II expansion plans in the second quarter of 2021. Ather Energy has even set up Ather Grid points in Ahmedabad with three fast charging points located at Regenta Central Antarim Navrangpura, Ophiolite’s-Sindhu Bhavan Road and Tea Post-Sindhu Bhavan Road.
      Free charging facilities will be offered via these charging stations till March 2021, not only for Ather 450X and 450 Plus but for all electric two and four wheelers. The company also plans to increase this count to 10-12 more in the months ahead.

      Ather 450X is faster and better than the Ather 450. It is presented in colour options of Grey, Green, and White along with limited-edition Series 1. It comes in with riding modes of Eco, Ride and Sport and powered by a 6 kWh PMSM motor and a new 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
      Ather has also introduced a new Wrap model for higher performance which allows the Ather 450 X to accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds, thus making it the quickest scooter in the 125cc segment.
      On board features include a smart 7 inch touchscreen instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity with music and voice assistant. The 450X also has a 4G SIM card allowing for managing phone calls and an Android Open Source offering Google map navigation and on-board diagnostics along with over the air updates, auto indicator off and guide-me-home lamps.       Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Price Likely To Increase To Rs 1.5 Lakh

      It has been a year since the Bajaj Chetak retro classic electric scooter’s launch but the company has been struggling to realize its full potential. The lifestyle product received over 50,000 expressions of interest and has registered sales of over 1,300 units – from just two launch cities – Pune and Bangalore. Bajaj is currently sitting on an pending order book of over 1,500 units. However, production bottlenecks has forced Bajaj to close bookings temporarily.
      Bajaj Chetak price hike
      Business Standard reports that Bajaj is planning to increase the price of the Chetak when the production resumes to a INR 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric scooter was launched in two variants with base Urbane variant priced at INR 1 lakh and top-end Premium variant priced at INR 1.15 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, Pune).
      It was earlier reported that Bajaj Auto has been making loss with every unit of Chetak sold at its launch price. The price hike is aimed at mitigating / eliminating this loss.
      Buoyed by a strong response from the customers, Bajaj Auto is confident that the price hike will not adversely impact the scooter’s prospects. The product is said to have attracted all kind of buyers including very affluent ones who have never owned a two wheeler before.
      Chetak sales were averaging 250-300 units per month before production got stopped due to shortage in semiconductor chips
      Production bottlenecks
      Soon after the Bajaj Chetak was launched amidst much fanfare, India went into a strict national level lockdown which brought production to a grounding halt. Subsequent logistical issues, compounded by a worsening relationship between India and China, adversely affected the import of critical components.
      Bajaj did finally manage to resume production only to put it on hold again due to acute shortage of semiconductors on a global scale. The pause in production would set Bajaj Chetak’s retail expansion plans back significantly. So, a price hike seems inevitable to limit the damage.
      Expansion plans and exports
      Bajaj is currently working on increasing the local content in the Chetak in addition to reforming its supply chain network. These issues are expected to be resolved in the coming months, and the company is confident of extending the market coverage from current 2 cities to 24 cities by end of next fiscal.
      Once the production constraints are sorted out and the Chetak settles into a rhythm in the domestic market, the company may look at exports. In Europe, the Bajaj Chetak could be positioned as a cheaper alternative to Vespa Elettrica. With the old continent taking fast strides in electric mobility domain, the Chetak seems like an attractive proposition. The retro classic styling is a big plus.
      In addition to the Chetak, Bajaj’s electric scooter platform will also serve KTM and its subsidiary Husqvarna. A new production facility in Chakan is being readied for Bajaj’s electric vehicle push.

      Hero Splendor is the manufacturer’s entry-level motorcycle and the highest-selling motorcycle in the world

      Hero MotoCorp recently celebrated production of 100 million two-wheelers since its inception in the Indian automotive market. This makes it the first two-wheeler company in the country to clock this momentous figure. In order to commemorate this special occasion, Hero has launched special 100 Million Edition models.
      The special edition lineup includes models such as Maestro, Destini, Splendor, Passion Pro, Glamor and Xtreme 160R. These 100 Million Edition models have cosmetic enhancements over their regular counterparts but no mechanical or design updates. In a video uploaded by YouTube channel ConsumerABS, the vlogger reveals details of a 100 Million Edition of Splendor.
      Updated Cosmetics
      Hero Splendor is currently retailed between Rs 61,785 and Rs 65,295. For starters, it wears an all-new red paint with body graphics on its fuel tank, side panels, rear fenders and headlamp cowl. Chrome and silver elements on the mechanical components have been reduced.
      For example, the engine and transmission assembly has been painted black instead of silver. So have been the toolbox and front suspension forks. It also rides on blacked-out alloy wheels as opposed to silver-finish alloys on the regular model. Below is a detailed walkaround video of the new Splendor 100 Million Edition.

      Other blacked-out elements include the exhaust pipe, muffler and swingarms. Some chrome elements such as the leg-guards, handlebar, ignition kick, exhaust guard and luggage carrier at rear have been retained in chrome.
      The other notable inclusion is ‘100 Million Edition’ branding on fuel tank and seat. Speaking of seats, this special edition motorcycle gets a dual-tone seat with contrast red stitching. On the whole, the bike looks sporty as well as aesthetically pleasing.
      Design & Features on offer
      As mentioned earlier there are no other changes on the bike what-so-ever. Its design highlights include bikini fairing and its iconic rectangular headlight, taillight and turn indicators. It gets the same set of features as the standard model which includes halogen lighting setup and an analogue instrument console that reads out information like speed, total distance covered, and fuel level.
      Hero 100 Million Editions
      It also gets a new i3s technology which is shot for idle stop start system. This feature kills the engine off while it idles for more than 5 seconds, This helps in bringing down consumption of fuel.
      Mechanical Specs
      Coming to its engine specs, it is powered by a BS6 compliant 97.2cc single-cylinder sloper fuel-injected engine which produces 7.9 bhp and 8.05 Nm of peak torque. This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It is built on a double-cradle frame which is suspended on telescopic forks at front and preload-adjustable twin shocks.       Then, the company will set out on a product blitzkrieg with next gen 350 cc family of products and the eagerly anticipated 650 cc cruiser. Based on the popular demand by our readers, we imagined the upcoming Royal Enfield 650 cruiser in 8 new colours.
      Royal Enfield 650 cruiser
      Currently in the advanced phase of testing, the Royal Enfield 650 cruiser will take on the likes of Kawasaki Vulcan 650, Honda Rebel, etc., on the global stage. The low-rider was first previewed at EICMA show in Milan back in 2018. Going by the prototypes that were spotted recently, the production version sports a significantly toned down design but the fuel tank could be a make shift unit.
      Royal Enfield is expected to offer the new flagship cruiser will an array of interesting colour themes.       Specifications
      The specifications are still under wraps. While presenting the concept, RE hinted that the cruiser, if produced, would feature a twin-cylinder engine with displacement of around 830 cc. However, the prototypes appear to be sporting the existing 650 Twin motor that has received widespread appreciation for its refinement and performance.
      On board the Interceptor and Continental GT, the air-cooled V-twin motor displacing 648 cc produces 47 hp and 52 Nm of torque. The 6-speed transmission is likely to be tweaked for relaxed highway touring.
      The motorcycle is suspended by inverted telescopic forks at the front, a first for a modern RE. The rear suspension is composed of traditional twin shock absorbers. Alloy wheels, thick tyres and dics brakes at either end are standard. The motorcycle will also be equipped with standard dual-channel ABS.

      Keeping up with the connectivity trend, we expect the upcoming Royal Enfield 650 cruiser to offer Bluetooth enabled smartphone connectivity for music and navigation.
      Launch and price
      The yet-to-be-named Royal Enfield 650 cruiser is expected to be launched in India sometime in the middle of next year. We estimate the price to undercut INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom). The new product will be important for the brand in export markets where it is likely to undercut all its primary rivals.

      Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is undoubtedly one the most one of the better looking bikes in its class. The naked streetfighter is definitely one of the strongest performers in the 200cc category with a powerful engine as well as features that enhance the riding experience. It is also a fan favourite when it comes to aftermarket customisation.
      An aggressive front end complemented by a muscular fuel tank and sharp extensions make it a hot favourite in the aftermarket industry. While there have been cases previously where a Pulsar 200NS has been modified into something tasteful, the latest example of a customised NS200 will surely blow everyone’s minds.
      Updated Design
      Hyderabad based IRONic has his stock Pulsar NS200 modified into a modern retro cafe racer. It is clearly evident that IRONic has put in a lot of effort and time to get this bike customised.
      In his own words, the project took a total of two and half years to complete, however, majority of the work was carried after the country went into a complete lockdown in March last year after the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
      Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS Modified by IRONic
      At first glance, the bike seems to have taken inspiration from a fighter jet streamlined front fairing which seamlessly integrates a small, circular headlamp. Fairing of the front end smoothly meets the sculpted fuel tank.
      Tons of chrome has been used for the front fairing, front forks, rear seat cowl, exhaust pipe and underbelly casing for the radiator engine. The images suggest that wheelbase of the bike might also have been increased by tweaking the front suspension unit slightly in order to compensate for the lowered front end of the bike.
      Another notable highlight is the wheel covers in a stunning dark maroon colour which pays homage to a 1947 Cadillac built and restored by IRONic’s father. The designer has given attention to little details, for starters, winged heel guards on the footpegs, a custom-made side stand, drilled out sprocket cover, a small taillight, an analogue speedometer and lastly an analogue fuel indicator neatly tucked in to the end of the fuel tank.

      Mechanical Configurations
      Mechanically, improvements have been made to its powertrain with the addition of a pod filter on the intake. Pulsar NS200 is powered by a 199.5cc BS6 compliant single-cylinder engine which develops a power of 24.13 bhp and 18.5 Nm of peak torque. This unit is offered with a six-speed gearbox. Suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at rear.
      Stopping power comes from Bybre calipers along with a 280mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc brake assisted by dual-channel ABS. It rivals the likes of TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Honda Hornet 2.0.

      Top 20 Scooter Exports Apr 20 To Jan 21 – Navi, Ntorq, Activa, Fascino, Pleasure

      Honda Navi was the most exported scooter from India during the said period

      Expected fallout of Covid-19 pandemic is clearly evident on scooter exports that have declined significantly during the period April to December 2020. Among the top 10 most exported scooters, only four have registered positive YoY growth. Overall, only 7 out of 29 scooters have positive YoY growth.
      Navi, Ntorq and Dio lead
      Most exported scooter during April – December 2020 was Honda Navi with 34,134 units. YoY exports are up by 39%, as compared to 24,612 units exported in the corresponding period in 2019. Navi is no longer offered in the domestic market and is manufactured in India only for export purposes.
      It had generated significant interest at the time of its unveiling at 2016 AutoExpo, but sales turned out to be below expectations. It is possible that Honda may introduce Navi in 125 cc variant, as a patent for the same has been filed in India.
      At number two is TVS Ntorq with 20,879 units exported in April – December 2020. That’s YoY decline of -20%, as compared to 26,181 units exported in April-December 2019. In the domestic market, Ntorq is a popular choice that has consistently featured in the top ten list of bestselling scooters in the country.
      Top Scooter Exported April 2020 to Jan 2021
      Honda Dio takes the third spot with 20,537 units exported in April – December 2020. The scooter has lost a significant chunk of its exports with YoY de-growth of -78%. Exports during the corresponding period in 2019 were 91,494 units. Dio is a popular scooter in domestic market as well and has consistently ranked in the top ten.
      At number four is Yamaha Ray with 20,168 units exported in April – December 2020. Ray has YoY-de-growth of -48%, as compared to 39,076 units exported in Apr-Dec 2019. In the domestic market, Yamaha Ray is one of the preferred options in 125cc scooter segment.
      Next is Suzuki Burgman with 6,327 units exported in April – December 2020. YoY exports have declined -44%, as compared to 11,224 units exported in the corresponding period in 2019. In the domestic market, Burgman will soon be launched in electric format. It will be a premium product that will compete with the likes of Bajaj Chetak and Ather scooter.

      In the top ten, Hero Duet has registered maximum YoY growth in percentage terms. Exports are up from 1,126 units in Apr-Dec 2019 to 4,368 units in Apr-Dec 2020, which is an increase of 288%. Other scooters in top ten include Honda Grazia (5,561 units), Piaggio Typhoon R50 (4,881), Piaggio SR50MT (4,810), and Yamaha Fascino (4,611). Among these, Grazia and Typhoon R50 have negative YoY growth of -75% and -4%, respectively.
      In percentage terms, the max gainer in April – December 2020 is Piaggio Aprilia SR160. Exports are up from 4 units to 244 units, which is YoY gain of 6000%. More

      Benelli Imperiale 400 also comes in with a two year unlimited kms warranty. This can be extended to a further two years while Benelli also offers 24×7 road side assistance as a part of its after sales service.
      Benelli Imperiale 400 Engine Lineup
      The 2021 Benelli Imperiale 400 gets its power via a 364cc, fuel injected, single cylinder, air cooled engine that offers 21 hp power at 6,000 rpm and 29 Nm torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine gets mated to a 5 speed gearbox.
      Suspension is handled by 41mm telescopic fork in the front and pre-load adjustable twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking is via 300mm disc brake in the front and 240mm brake at the rear with dual channel ABS.
      Benelli Upcoming Launches
      Benelli currently has only 2 bikes in its portfolio in India. Benelli Imperiale 400 BS 6 which was introduced in India in 2020 while on 29th January 2021 the Benelli TRK 502 was launched at Rs.4.80 lakhs. Other model launches were delayed due to the pandemic last year and now Benelli is planning several new launches in the country.
      These will include Benelli TRK 502X with launch in March 21, while later this year the company will bring in the Benelli Leoncino 500, Benelli 302S Tourer, Benelli 302R Super sport, Benelli Leoncino 250 and the Benelli TNT 600i. More
