The 155cc platform from Yamaha is one heck of a versatile architecture that has found its way to numerous models across the Japanese bikemaker’s international lineup. Initially debuting with R15, the platform has gone through several updates over a period of time and made its presence in models such as MT-15, XSR 155, Aerox 155 and many more.
To the uninitiated, this platform has even found its place in an adventure bike called WR155R retailed in Indonesia. This ADV is a proper dirt bike rivalling the ones from Kawasaki’s KX series. It has now received a top of the line Monster Energy Edition like other premium offerings from Yamaha.
WR155R Monster Energy Edition- Updated Cosmetics
In line with other models, the Monster Energy Edition of WR155R flaunts a signature black and blue colour combination with Monster Energy graphics on the fuel tank. Apart from the cosmetic updates, this variant does not receive any changes with respect to the standard model either in terms of specs or features.
Elaborating on its design, WR155R gets a triangular headlight with a typical beak-like fender upfront. The single-piece saddle is coloured blue and gets a unique boomerang shape with a strap. Other prominent highlights include a lengthy handlebar, a sloping 8.1-litre fuel tank, arrowhead-shaped rearview mirrors and wire-spoked wheels.

Speaking of features, WR155R gets a fully digital LCD instrument console that provides information such as average fuel consumption, trip data, odometer reading, a gear indicator, as well as a clock. It also features hazard lights.

Powering the ADV bike is a familiar 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, VVA engine that powers R15. This unit is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper and assist clutch.
The frame of the bike sits on 41mm telescopic forks at front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, however, they aren’t aided by an ABS in order to provide better handling while off-roading. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels which are shod with dual-purpose tyres.
In Indonesia, the Monster Energy of WR155R is available at a price of IDR 38,325,000 (around INR 2 lakh). WR155R is unlikely to go on sale in India anytime soon since there aren’t many buyers for such motorcycles which are strictly meant for off-road purposes. More

A couple of weeks back, Yamaha launched a new generation model of R15, christened as the R15 V4. India was the first country to have received the new gen R15. It has received applause from all corners. The entry-level sports bike has always found many takers in the Indian market due to its impressive looks and handling and powerful performance.
However, the new-gen R15 also comes with a sizeable price hike which might put it out of the shopping list of many enthusiast bikers. Hence, Yamaha has followed R15 V4 with a more affordable version of the baby sports bike called R15 S V3. As the name suggests, it is based on the previous gen model.
Yamaha R15S V3 Vs New R15 V4 – Design
It is a different bike altogether from the current V4 on sale. Let us look at some of the key variations in R15S V3 which distinguishes itself from R15 V4. For starters, a notable variation is the revised styling of R15 V3 as opposed to R15 V4. The former gets a familiar twin-beam LED headlamp at front as opposed to a single beam headlamp housed inside the front apron of V4.
Another difference is the inclusion of a unibody single-piece saddle in R15S as opposed to split-seats on offer in R15 V4. In fact, the sleek saddle in R15S is expected to be more comfortable than the latter as it offers much more room for both the rider and pillion as well. The new R15S is only available in a single Racing Blue colour option instead of five paint schemes on offer in R15 V4.

Yamaha R15S V3 Vs V4 – Engine, Hardware Specs
Powering both versions of R15 is the same 155cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, liquid-cooled engine although output is marginally different from each other. The motor in R15S cranks out 18.6 PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1 Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. R15 V4 motor delivers 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm at the same rpms. Both engines are paired with the same 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch.
Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology is on offer with both. The two motorcycles sit on a familiar deltabox frame and feature the same Aluminum Swingarm although the rear subframe on R15 V4 has been tweaked slightly. Another major variation is that R15S comes with simple telescopic forks at front, unlike the more advanced USD forks upfront.
Features & Price
More importantly, R15S misses out on some critical features such as traction control and a quickshifter like in the fourth-gen R15. It does feature a fully digital instrument console with Gear Shift Indicator but R15S misses on a Bluetooth connectivity option offered in R15 V4. Other common features on both motorcycles include Side stand with an engine cut-off switch, LED headlamps and a dual-channel ABS.

The most significant variation is the difference in pricing of the two models. R15S is priced at Rs 1.57 lakh whereas the base variant of R15 V4 is Rs 14,000 dearer than the former. Yamaha Motor India has launched a new and more affordable sports bike called R15S V3. It is a cheaper version of the recently launched R15 V4.0. Targeting buyers with a limited budget, the R15S has undercut the R15 V4 in price.
Yamaha R15S V3 Launch Price
Price of the R15S V3 starts from Rs 1.57 lakh, while that of the R15 V4.0 starts from Rs 1.71 lakh for base variant and goes all the way to Rs 1.83 lakh. This makes the R15S V3 about Rs 14k cheaper than the base V4 and Rs 26k cheaper than the top of the line R15M V4. All prices are ex-sh, Delhi.
Mr. Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said, “The YZF-R15 in its Version 3.0 was a huge success as it proved to be the most exhilarating model in the 150cc supersport segment with advanced technology and features.” In Sep 2021, Yamaha recorded sales over 11k units for the R15V4.
“While the YZF-R15 V4 is being highly appreciated by customers across India, our research has shown that customers are also looking for a more viable option to commute with a pillion, without having to compromise on the Racing DNA of the R15. It may be recalled that when the company initially introduced the YZF-R15 V2.0, the V1 motorcycle, under R15S moniker was re-launched so as to offer a more affordable version of the bike to buyers. This new R15S has followed a similar approach.
Yamaha R15S V3 Specs
The R15S V3 variant is powered by a 155cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine that produces maximum power of 18.6 PS at 10,000rpm, with a torque output of 14.1 Nm at 8,500rpm. The fuel-injected motor with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It will continue to feature a Multi Function LCD Instrument Cluster with Gear Shift Indicator, Dual Channel ABS, Assist & Slipper Clutch, Side stand with engine cut-off Switch, Deltabox Frame, Aluminum Swingarm, and a Super Wide 140/70-R17 Radial Rear Tyre.
In terms of dimensions, the new Yamaha R15S will stand 1,990mm in length, 725mm in width and 1135mm in height with a wheelbase of 1,325mm. Gross weight will be at 292 kgs and it will receive features such as radial tyre at the rear, side stand engine cut off switch and a dual horn set up. Only one colour option is on offer – Racing Blue.
Yamaha India Chairman further added, “After the introduction of the brand Campaign ‘The Call of the Blue’ in 2018, the R15 model range witnessed a staggering growth in sales. Considering the period between January 2018 to October 2021, we have garnered a total sale of 276,445 units, which is a remarkable accomplishment. With features like USD forks, quickshifter, traction control system, connectivity tech and new colour options, Yamaha R15 V4 and R15M are significantly better than the earlier V3 model. However, these updates have resulted in price hike of around Rs 10-20k. To ensure that the popular R15 nameplate remains accessible to a larger user base, Yamaha has decided to launch a new variant named R15S.
Yamaha R15S details
Yamaha has already filed application to register the new name. R15S is likely to be an affordable version that would appeal to users with limited budget. While it could have the same looks as R15 V4, some of the advanced features may be removed to reduce cost. R15S can also be described as a re-branded version of R15 V3.
It is to note that Yamaha had used a similar strategy earlier also in case of R15 V2. The idea was essentially to launch a no-frills product that would work out cheaper than the standard model. Needs of users vary widely and not everyone may be looking for advanced features.
In case of entry-level performance-oriented bikes like R15, a significant percentage of users comprise youngsters. Availability of an affordable version will allow Yamaha to put more options on the table for its customers.
Yamaha R15S Homologated In India
For R15S variant, Yamaha is likely to retain the same look and feel as that of new R15 V4. This is necessary, as users may not like the idea of buying something that looks similar to the old model. Things like design updates, USD forks, new colour options, graphics and other cosmetic enhancements are likely to be retained for R15S. However, for reducing costs, other features such as quickshifter, traction control, etc. could be removed.
2021 Yamaha R15S engine
It is expected that Yamaha R15S will be powered by the same engine as was offered with R15 V3. It makes slightly more power, as compared to new R15 V4 and R15M. New R15 bikes are powered by a 155cc, SOHC, liquid cooled, 4-valve motor. It is capable of generating 18.4 ps of max power at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. It is mated to a constant mesh, 6-speed transmission. In case of R15 V3, power and torque output is 18.6 bhp and 14.1 Nm.
One of the long pending demands fulfilled with new R15 V4 is USD forks. In international markets, this feature was offered as standard. However, it is only now that it has been introduced in India. Yamaha has also added additional features such as a new fully digital LCD meter console.
It displays a range of information such as speed, rpm, gear position, ride mode, phone battery level, app connectivity status, and traction control system status. Alerts about SMS, email and calls are also displayed on the screen. Yamaha received rousing applause from all corners when it launched a brand new generation of R15. Called R15 V4, the baby superbike features a plethora of upgrades over its predecessor- R15 V3. For the number of updates seen on the new model, the new R15 has been priced very competitively, starting at Rs 1.68 lakh (ex-showroom).
The motorcycle tops out at Rs 1.80 lakh for the range-topping Monster Energy MotoGP Edition. Thanks to the overall package paired with an attractive pricing, the entry-level sports bike became the highest-selling motorcycle for the Japanese brand in India for the month of September 2021.
Yamaha R15 V4 Prices Increase – Nov 2021
As per dealer sources, R15 V4 is set to witness its first price hike very soon. Prices of the fully-faired motorcycle will be increased by Rs 3,000 and the revised prices will take effect from 1 November 2021. Yamaha India is yet to announce official price hike.
The updated prices will not come with any changes on the bike though. This means, starting next month, prices of R15 V4 will likely start at Rs 1.71 lakh and go up to Rs 1.83 lakh (both prices ex-showroom).

The standard variant of R15 is available in three colour options namely Metallic Red, Dark Knight and Racing Blue. The R15M trim is offered in a silver paint scheme with Blue accents while the top-spec MotoGP Edition comes in a black paint scheme with MotoGP-inspired body graphics and Monster Energy branding on fuel tank and side fairings.

Yamaha India launched the new gen R15 last month. India became the first country in the world where the new R15 V4 was launched. It is priced from Rs 1.68 lakh, ex-sh – making it one of the most expensive motorcycle in its segment.
Yamaha R15 Sales Sep 2021 – A New High
Production of the new Yamaha R15 had already started much before its launch. First undisguised spy shots appeared on the internet in Aug 2021. As per Sep 2021 sales data, R15 has become the best-selling motorcycle from Yamaha.
In Sep 2021, Yamaha R15 sales were at 11,792 units. This is a 151% increase when compared to sales in Sep 2020, when R15 registered less than 4,700 units in sales. The second best-seller from Yamaha motorcycles was the FZ, followed by MT15 and then the FZ25 in Sep 2021. Sales of Yamaha FZ have declined sharply in Sep 2021. This is most likely due to parts shortage.
In terms of MoM sales, R15 registered an almost 23% increase in sales. FZ registered a sales decline here as well. Yamaha Motorcycle sales have grown by 2.39% as compared to Aug 2021 sales. But the same have declined 31.65% when compared with Sep 2020. Take a look at the sales table below.

It gets single beam LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, distinctive body panels, 3D badging on its muscular fuel tank, sporty body graphics and revised fairings are among its features along with anodized blue fork caps and golden coloured brake caliper. It also sports a fully digital LCD instrument console with Yamaha’s connectivity feature and Bluetooth.
2021 Yamaha R15 V4 sees not much change in its engine specs. It gets the same 155cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled engine making 18.3 hp power at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed gearbox with traction control and quick shifter. Front suspension is via inverted forks while rear suspension is via a monoshock unit. Braking is via disc brakes at either end, mated to dual channel ABS – offered as standard.
Yamaha has also added the new Aerox 155 maxi-scooter to its lineup. Prices start from Rs 1,29,000 and it is offered in a single variant and three colour options of Racing Blue, Grey Vermillion, and MotoGP. The MotoGP version carries a price tag of Rs 1,30,500. Yamaha Aerox is powered by a 155cc, single cylinder engine with VVA technology. As bookings commence for the newly launched 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 and Yamaha R15M start, the company has also released a list of accessories that buyers can opt for along with a service schedule and warranty pack. Deliveries have already started across India.
2021 Yamaha R15 V4 and R15M are priced at Rs 1,67,800 and Rs 1,77,800 respectively. There is also a limited edition Monster MotoGP in Black, priced at Rs 1,80,000. Despite the fact that both the bikes come in with a range of outstanding features, buyers still prefer to add a touch of individuality to their bikes and this is where the accessory list comes into play.

Starting off with the Frame Slider at Rs 1,650 for a set of two, the list also includes a pair of LED Flashers at Rs 1,490, a Mobile Charger at Rs 750 and Skid Plate priced at Rs 550. The accessory list also includes a Seat Cover at Rs 450 and Tank Pad at Rs 190.
The Frame Sliders offer better protection to the fairing of the motorcycle in the event of collision while the company is also offering adjustable clutch and brake levers with an anti-slip surface. Each of these accessories are on sale via Yamaha authorized dealerships.

Standard warranty being offered on 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 and R15M is for 24 months or 30,000 kms (whichever is earlier) from the date of sale. The services pack is for 6 free services and starts off from 30 days of purchase or 1000 kms with a service redemption rate of Rs 105.
Yamaha R15 V4 Service Schedule And Cost
The 2nd free service is after 150 days or 5,000 kms at Rs 115 while buyers can avail of their 3rd and 4th free service after 270 days of purchase of 9000 kms at service redemption rate of Rs 125 and after 290 days/13,000 kms at Rs 140.
The 5th and 6th services are after 510 days/17000 kms and 630 days/21000 kms with no service redemption charges. Post free services, Yamaha offers an extended warranty of 36 months/40,000 kms ranging from 90 days of date of sale for Rs 777, 91-180 days at Rs 999 and from 181-730 days at Rs 1,111.

One of the popular entry-level sports bikes in the country, Yamaha R15 has been launched in its new avatar. Yamaha has also launched R15M along with the regular R15 V4. Both bikes get a range of enhancements including visual as well as functional updates.
New Yamaha R15 V4 Walkaround
New-gen Yamaha R15 V4 packs in several cosmetic enhancements. Overall styling has been inspired by new YZR-R7 that was unveiled earlier this year in May. R15 V4 has an updated front fascia with LED projector set-up. This replaces the twin-eye LED headlights in use with existing R15 V3. The headlamp is flanked by sharp LED DRLs, which ensure a dominating street presence for the bike.

With new R15 V4, Yamaha has also fulfilled the long-pending demand of USD forks. As international-spec R15 V3 is equipped with USD forks, it was a bit of disappointment that the Indian version came with conventional telescopic forks.
Users can now expect improved ride dynamics and handling, especially at high speeds, when braking or negotiating uneven surfaces. Wrapped in golden shade, the USD forks also work to enhance the bike’s sporty profile.
Delivery of the new Yamaha R15 V4 as well as that of the R15M has started across India. One of the first owner, of the new R15 in India, is Farhan Ahmed, who also owns previous gen R15. Considering that India is the first country where the R15 V4 has been launched first, Farhan is likely the first owner of new R15 V4 in the world.

Powering new Yamaha R15 V4 is the same 155 cc, liquid cooled, SOHC motor as the current model. It is capable of generating 18.6 ps of max power at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission.
R15 V4 will continue using performance boosting tech such as variable valve actuation (VVA) and assist and slipper clutch. VVA comprises two intake valve cams that are used independently. One is for low to mid-range rpm whereas the other is for high rpm. These switch at 7,400 rpm mark, which ensures optimal torque availability across the rev range including at low rpm.
Assist and slipper clutch works to ensure smooth gearshifts during rapid deceleration. Another benefit is lighter clutch pull, which reduces rider fatigue. R15 V4 utilizes a deltabox frame with monocross suspension at rear. Braking duties are performed by 282 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.
