2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Battery, Range Specs Revealed

Unlike the Ioniq range of EVs based on e-GMP platform, updated Hyundai Kona is underpinned by a modified B-segment platform of its predecessor2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai and Kia are currently on the offensive where EVs are concerned. The duo are actively pushing ahead in EV space. With EV juggernauts like Tesla and BYD to beat, Hyundai and Kia have launched a slew of popular EVs. Ioniq 5 and Kia EV-6 are stark examples of this. Design of the new Kona EV was released late last year. Now, Hyundai has revealed official battery specs and range details of New Hyundai Kona Electric.
Just like its predecessor, Hyundai has not made Kona EV-only. At least for now. In this sense, Kona will spawn a ICE model and a strong hybrid model alongside an EV-only model. Underpinning this project, is a modified version of Hyundai’s B-segment platform enabling mounts for engine and also hybrid components. How better is it as opposed to its predecessor? Let’s take a look.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
    New Hyundai Kona Electric Specs
New Gen Kona Electric comes with two battery pack options. The base variant gets a 48.4 kWh battery pack claiming to deliver a range of 342 kms on full charge. The top variant comes with a larger 65.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a drive range of 490 kms. Fast charging option is available. The bigger battery pack takes only 41 minutes to charge from 10-80% via fast charger.
Both battery pack options with new Kona get a front mounted electric motor. In the smaller battery pack option, the electric motor is rated to deliver 154 hp while with the larger battery pack you get 214 hp. Torque output has been kept at 255 Nm for both variants.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
Speaking of India, we currently get a 39.2 kWh battery pack option with a claimed range of 452 km. If next gen Hyundai Kona EV is launched in India, it should boast a better range than outgoing model. Just like current Kona, the new one also comes with Vehicle-to-load capability. This means that you will be able to charge internal as well as external devices like home appliances using Kona EV.
    Design & Features
Hyundai has come up with a radical and geometric design for new Kona. With many of Hyundai’s designs, upgrades usually don’t feel organic and cohesive in capturing the essence of its predecessor. That is not the case with new Hyundai Kona. The parametric and pixel design philosophies combine to form a handsome-looking front.
Headlight and brake light elements are housed in separate pods, while LED light bars take the centre stage at both ends. They accentuate the width of new Kona. Speaking of, new gen Hyundai Kona is 5.5” (139.7mm) longer, 0.9” (22.86mm) wider and has a 2.3” (58.42mm) longer wheelbase over its predecessor.
    2024 Hyundai Kona Electric
The sharp lines and creases at the sides give it an athletic appeal. At the same time, flared wheel arches and undercuts behind its fenders add substantial muscle. There are smart-looking 5-spoke design alloy wheels and near the C-pillar, shoulder-line and roof-line merge to neatly form an X-insignia.
On the inside, Hyundai has used sustainable materials. The main attraction here are its dual 12.3” digital displays and a 12” HUD. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, NFC-enabled smartphone and smartwatch access digital key, ambient lighting, flat reclining electric front seats, Hyundai SmartSense ADAS tech, remote parking among many, are highlight features. Hyundai Creta Electric Spied For First Time – 2025 Launch Plan

A 100 kW electric motor and a battery big-enough for a 400+ km range should make for an interesting proposition for our marketHyundai Creta Electric SpiedHyundai India has kick-started its electric vehicle onslaught by launching the Ioniq 5 and showcasing Ioniq 6 at the Auto Expo last month. But the Korean automaker is also working on a more mainstream EV for our market. It was recently reported that Hyundai is working on an electric Creta crossover (codenamed SU2i EV) and an early prototype based on the conventional variant has been spotted for the first time in public.Automotive enthusiast Nitin Tyagi was charging his EV while the Hyundai Creta EV prototype stopped by for a recharge, and he promptly clicked these photos. There were a total of two test mules of the Hyundai Creta Electric. As you can see, the test mules do not have any camouflage but there is an easily noticeable protrusion from the floor pan which appears to be a structural member supporting the battery pack.2025 Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedConverting an in-production IC-engined car into a fully electric prototype is not a walk-in-the-park but Hyundai engineers and technicians seem to have done a pretty neat job. Save for the visible floor pan extension and different body panel colours, there is nothing on the exterior to suggest it is not a regular Creta. The production version is also expected to be based on the modified version of the current IC-engine platform. This approach will allow Hyundai to optimize cost since its almost fully localized. Tata has applied the same formula to Nexon EV, and Mahindra to XUV400.Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedThis will also help the automaker produce the vehicle with minimal modifications and investments to its existing assembly lines. However, in the long term, Hyundai India will localize its fully electric E-GMP architecture for both domestic and export markets.Hyundai Creta EV SpecsNot much is known about the specifications of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV but we expect critical sub-systems to be derived from the Kona EV. That would mean a 100 kW (136 hp) PMSM electric motor with a peak torque output of 395 Nm of torque. The battery pack is also likely to be derived from the international sibling. With a capacity of 39.2 kWh, the lithium-ion polymer unit should be good for an ARAI-certified range of over 400 km. The Creta EV could be used with some significant aero optimizations over its IC-engined sibling to improve energy efficiency.Hyundai Creta Electric SpiedNew Hyundai Creta EV is expected to be ready for its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo before going on sale later that year. Interestingly, the debut timeline is similar to its primary competitor Maruti YY8 electric SUV (codename). Expect the pricing to  be somewhere between Rs 20 to 30 lakh.Tata, Maruti, Mahindra and other OEMs will be aiming to position their volume-oriented electric crossovers in the same segment. That should make for an intense competition which will ultimately benefit the customers. We think Hyundai will easily attain its volume target of around 25,000 units per annum with its mid-premium EV offering. More

Futuristic looks and Eco-conscious interiors also play a key role in making the Ioniq 5 a very desirable car. India launch was much anticipated and finally, today at the 2023 Auto Expo, Hyundai has launched their Ioniq 5 electric car.Globally, it gets a 72.6 kWh battery pack with a single-motor and a dual-motor configuration. For India, Hyundai is offering just a single-motor setup. This and other aspects will help Hyundai to price the Ioniq 5 competitively and undercut its cousin Kia EV6 by quite some margin.Hyundai Ioniq 5 Prices IndiaKia and Hyundai are corporate sister companies. This allows them to share platforms and powertrains across various segments. In most cases, Hyundai products are positioned as premium offerings over Kia’s counterparts. In the hierarchy, Kia products are the least pricey, followed by Hyundai products with a slight price bump and some more with Genesis products.Taking a look at Santa Fe / Sorento, Palisade / Telluride and even Creta / Seltos, it is evident Hyundai products are the pricier options. With Ioniq 5 and EV6, there is a role reversal as the former will undercut the latter in pricing. And that too by a huge margin. Hyundai Ioniq 5 prices in India start from Rs 44.95 lakh, ex-sh. In comparison, Kia EV6 prices start from Rs 60.95 lakh, ex-sh.Hyundai Ioniq 5 Vs Kia EV6 – SpecsKia EV6 comes with a larger 77.4 kWh battery pack capable of 229 bhp and 350 Nm with a single motor RWD layout and 325 bhp and 605 Nm of torque with a dual motor AWD layout. In contrast, Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes equipped with a smaller 72.6 kWh battery pack capable of 217 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.Kia EV6 is brought into the country via CBU (Completely Built Unit) route attracting 60% customs duty. Whereas Hyundai Ioniq 5 is being brought into India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route attracting just 15% customs duty. A combination of lower customs duty, lower performance and smaller battery, will allow Hyundai to price its upcoming EV competitively.More features, Recycled materialsHyundai Ioniq 5 is a 5-seater electric crossover by the Korean manufacturer. It measures 4,635 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and stands 1,605 mm tall. On the inside, it gets a vegan leather interior, a panoramic sunroof and plastics made out of recycled materials and is ecologically sensitive. The car also gets a massive 530L of boot space.Even though Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 share most of their components on a different scale, they are polar opposites in design. Kia shoots for a sporty and modern crossover which gets family design traits found on the front fascia. With the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has taken a radical approach and has created a retro-futuristic blast. More

2024 Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Spied For The First Time – New Gen

Hyundai Kona EV on sale in India is the pre-facelift 1st gen Kona – Global market has the facelifted 1st gen Kona on offer2024 Hyundai Kona EV Spied – Front ProfileKia and Hyundai combined, are underdogs that will soon match the might of Tesla and BYD in the future. Hyundai has been developing strategic products to compete with well-established EV giants. The South Korean company is also taking on current hottest EV in the world, Tesla Model 3 with upcoming Ioniq 6.Hyundai and Kia are eyeing large electric SUVs too, as we recently saw Kia EV9 under testing and will soon be followed by Hyundai Ioniq 7. 1st gen Hyundai Kona EV facelift is already sold in some markets. The company is also testing 2nd gen Kona EV based on 2nd gen ICE-powered Kona which is also under testing.2024 Hyundai Kona Electric SpiedFor starters, these test mules were spotted just outside of Hyundai / Kia technical centre in Germany. The test mules for Kona EV are almost identical to test mules of regular ICE-powered Kona. But with keen eyes, they can be distinguished from each other even under heavy camouflage.First, Kona EV test mules get a square openable pocket which is presumably for the charging port. 1st generation Hyundai Kona EV which was also launched in India, had a charging port at the front and in the same location too. Hyundai Kona EV facelift based on ICE-powered Kona facelift, also had the charging port at the same spot.2024 Hyundai Kona EV Spied – Side ProfileThis Kona EV facelift was not launched in India. This suggests that the 2nd gen Kona EV will be based on an updated platform of its 1st gen. Second, if we look at the rear, there is no exhaust pipe visible. Like, obviously. Hence, confirming that the latest Kona test mule is in fact, an EV.What Can We Expect?Less camouflaged ICE-powered Kona test mules have been spotted globally. It sports a full-width LED lightbar at the front as seen on other Hyundai products like Staria and Stargazer. It is also likely to get a trapezoidal-shaped LED headlight in its bumpers. Grille on ICE-powered Kona 2nd gen will be closed off for that typical EV appeal that we also see in MG ZS EV.It will also get body cladding all around and Ioniq 5 inspired minimalist interiors. In terms of powertrains, Hyundai is mum on this matter. But as Kona EV is expected to be similar to Kia Niro EV, we can expect the same motor and battery to be shared. Kia Niro EV gets a 200 bhp electric motor which draws power from a 64.8 kWh battery.Kia Niro EV can cover a claimed 463 km of range on a single charge with this relatively large battery. But Hyundai can also offer a smaller battery with a less powerful motor which will eek out a similar range on base variants. We say this because that’s similar to what we got in India with the first gen Kona EV. India launch isn’t confirmed yet, but we still have a long time as it is expected to hit global markets in 2024. Apart from ZS EV, it will also rival upcoming new SUVs from Tata and Mahindra.Source More

Hyundai Kona Electric Vs Creta Petrol, Diesel – Cost After 80k Kms

Hyundai Kona Electric owner has spent a total of Rs 2.07 lakh on charging and maintenance of his carHyundai Kona ElectricWhile electric vehicles (EVs) are the future of mobility, their high purchase cost prevents them from penetrating into the mass market. However, EVs ace their IC engine counterparts when it comes to running costs. It is no hidden fact that fuel prices have seen an exorbitant rise in the past few months. Many people have already started to make the transition from petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to emission-free battery-powered vehicles. In the passenger vehicle space, Hyundai Kona Electric was one of the first electric cars to be introduced in India. Team-BHP member ADI7YAK has shared interesting details on the expenses incurred for charging and maintaining Hyundai Kona Electric vs that of a Creta Petrol or diesel after driving 80,000 kms.Hyundai Kona Electric Charging CostCharging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsHyundai Kona EV owner has shared that he has owned a Kona EV for twenty months which recently clocked 80 thousand kilometers. He has provided a detailed cost breakup of owning and maintaining the car and a rough calculation of how much money he has saved in comparison to petrol automatic and diesel automatic cars of a similar size and price.Owner of Kona EV mentions that in order to achieve 80,000km on the odometer, a total of 11 megawatts of electricity were used. This includes both public and home charging setup. For this, the owner had to spend a total cost of Rs. 91480. Around 90 percent of the charging was done via home charging while the rest were done from public charging stations.Charging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsHe further mentions that public chargers are more expensive but also quicker than standard home wall chargers. Getting into more details, the owner reveals that he has spent around Rs 18,500 on maintaining his car which includes regular service and other wear and tear items such as wiper blades, bulbs, etc. By his standards, this amount is very cheap.Charging cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsThe highest cost of maintenance Rs 47,800 was incurred by a change in tyres which were replaced after 50,000km. After taking into account each and every cost attached, the owner reported an average running cost of Rs 1.37 per km. This was compared against the running cost of petrol- and diesel-powered Creta.Cost Comparison With Diesel, Petrol-powered CretaAfter collecting data from Creta owners, the Kona EV user came to realise that Creta petrol automatic owners would have to spend almost around Rs 7.00 lakh for the car to clock 80,000 km on its odometer. In case of a Creta diesel automatic, it would be around Rs 5.41 lakh. Both these figures are much greater than Rs 91,480 spent by the Kona EV user on electricity.Maintenance cost of Hyundai Kona Electric – For 80,000 kmsTherefore, savings in case of Kona EV stands at Rs 6,08 lakh and Rs 4.50 lakh when compared with petrol- and diesel-powered Creta. Top-end petrol variant of Creta costs Rs. 21.16 lakh while its diesel-powered counterpart would cost Rs 21.65 lakh. On the other hand, Kona EV costs Rs 25.3 lakhs. Therefore, for a total distance of over 80,000km, the additional cost of an EV is compensated and savings begin.Hyundai Kona Electric Vs Creta Petrol, Diesel and HexaSource More

Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric Car Debuts – Based On Kia EV6 Platform

Hyundai Ioniq 6 will rival the likes of Tesla Model 3 – It is 4,855 mm long and 1,880 mm wideHyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarHyundai, along with its sister brand Kia, is slowly emerging as an EV leader globally. Even though Hyundai and Kia have decent products in their portfolio, they didn’t have a product that would directly rival Tesla’s hot cake, Model 3. Until now.Even with all the EVs that are pitted against Tesla, the American EV maker is still the top dog with its EV range consisting of Model S, 3, X, Y. Hey, I didn’t do this, Elon did. With the South Korean duo pushing their EV envelope further, we can expect the market to heat up considerably.Hyundai Ioniq 6 – Design & FeaturesIoniq 6 has a design that is a culmination of a lot of inspirations from German car manufacturers. But no matter how many cars you can see in it, it is still quite a looker with a swooping roof and coupe design. From the front, it draws a lot of inspiration from Porsche Taycan EV. It gets a similar headlight layout, bonnet shape and a lot more elements. From the side, the beautiful swooping roof and coupe-like roofline ring any bell to you? It immediately reminds us of the now discontinued Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class with its curvaceous body shape. CLA-Class was one of the prettiest cars from Mercedes-Benz and it also came with frameless doors that enhanced its overall drama.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarComing to the rear profile, we are hard-pressed not to compare it with Porsche’s design language. The ducktail spoiler found on the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is lifted straight off Porsche’s iconic 911 series ducktail spoilers. Even the rear shape and the LED light bar connecting the tail-lights is a typical modern Porsche design philosophy. Ask Ferdinand Porsche, he would approve with us.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarHyundai seems to be following the “Same same, but different” kind of design philosophy. If we look at Hyundai Ioniq 6 in isolation and without comparing it with cars mentioned above, even though it is very hard not to, it is a looker. To amplify the design further, it gets stylish alloy wheels too.The most impressive aspect of this car’s design is its 0.21 Cd air drag coefficient. It ain’t no Mercedes-Benz EQS at 0.209 Cd air drag coefficient, but is still very impressive. The flush door handles and streamlined cameras replacing the mirrors certainly help in achieving such a low air drag coefficient.Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric CarLaunch TimelineOn the inside, it radiates a minimalist vibe with dual 12” screens dominating the dashboard. Most of the car’s functionalities are expected to be controlled with these screens. Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected to get a 77 kWh battery pack with either a single or dual motor layout with AWD. This combination might be good enough to yield 400 km to 500 km of range from a single charge.Hyundai hasn’t revealed a launch timeline for the Ioniq 6. When launched, it will compete with Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, Kia EV6, VW ID.5 and the likes. India launch could also be planned. But before the Ioniq 6, Hyundai will bring the Ioniq 5 to India. More
