TVS-BMW Electric Scooters, Motorcycles Planned For Launch

TVS-BMW electric motorcycle render. Credit – Abin DesignsTVS Motor Company and BMW Group has extended their partnership further for future technologies and electric vehicles
TVS Motor Company and BMW Group partnership has already proven its mettle when it comes to the 310cc engine. For TVS, the RR310 Apache helped the manufacturer enter a new segment in the domestic market being its biggest bike. For BMW Motorrad, the 310 twins helped the company make inroads in the market, improve on market share, reach sales of 5k units in India in 2021, and improve its standing in the international market.
For BMW, the 310 twins reached the 1 lakh units production milestone in October 2021. TVS’ Hosur manufacturing plant is already charged with 10 percent of BMW’s global production output. Longterm branching and subdivisions of the association between both auto manufacturers have not been revealed to full potential. This of course is owing to the nature of such partnerships.
    BMW-TVS Sub 500cc and electric
TVS Motor today announced the expansion of their partnership with BMW. This would outline co-development of an electric platform to cater to manufacturing of electric scooters, motorcycles, and new concepts. First product under the new announcement will debut within 2 years. Current production of the 310cc units is within the guidance of manufacturing sub 500cc bikes at the Indian plant for sale both in India, and international markets.
Mr. Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, said, “In the nine years of our long-term strategic partnership, we have always cherished the common core values we share with BMW Motorrad: focus on quality, engineering prowess, innovation and customer satisfaction. These factors and our commitment to deliver superior quality products with a strong value proposition has been key to the success of all three products launched from the platform.
    TVS Creon Electric Scooter Concept
The new world of future mobility encompasses a strong play through alternate solutions, including electric mobility. Expanding this successful partnership to EVs and other newer platforms will create opportunities to deliver advanced technology and aspirational products to global markets and bring valuable synergies to both companies.”
Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad, said, “In light of our fruitful association with TVS Motor Company, we are delighted to extend and expand our cooperation agreement to include long-term partnership and joint development of new platforms and technologies, including electric vehicles.”
    Emissions, electric, and investments
The electric vehicle space is an exciting one. Concepts and ideas are quickly being transformed into vehicles that are projected a the need of the hour. Global emission norms leave little wriggle room when it comes to strict footprint goals. Which means companies are working round the clock to meet modern vehicle requirements.
But it’s never going to be as easy as converting an exhaustive range of current day vehicles into electric variants. With each emission compliance update, manufacturers have had to make informed decisions regarding which vehicles would be carried forward and which would be axed. Emission compliance and cost consideration for consumers and manufacturers alike are key factors.
This paves the way for new architecture. Ones that are modular, modern and have longterm benefits as market requirements evolve. The premise of a new development is likely to revolve around joint development, and manufacturing of high end electric two-wheelers. BMW is reputed as a premium manufacturer, and its electric vehicle progress isn’t going to be any different.
Three weeks earlier, TVS signed a MoU with Tamil Nadu government for ‘investment in Future Technologies and Electric Vehicle’. The commitment entails Rs. 1200 crores in the next four years. Utility scope extends to ‘design, development and manufacturing of new products and capacity expansion in the EV space’. More

BMW Motorrad India 2021 Sales Cross 5k – Thanks To G310, 350cc Scooter, Others

BMW Scooter First Owner In IndiaBMW Motorrad reports all time high sales in India with the counter clocking at 5k units in 2021
BMW Motorrad has much to celebrate with 2021 coming to a close. The premium motorcycle manufacturer is celebrating 5k two wheeler deliveries in India through 2021. Growth has been momentous in a year that continues to thrive on uncertainties.
In 2020, BMW Motorrad India reported sales at 2,563 units at 6.65 percent YoY growth over 2019 when 2,403 units were sold. The year prior, 2,187 units were sold. This is when BMW got on the growth track with the launch of updated BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS motorcycles.
2021 has been a phenomenal year
Prior to the G310 launches, in 2017 BMW had sold 252 units through the year. In its newest form, the bikes were launched after careful price consideration which catapulted sales onto the fast-track. The premium two-wheeler segment in India is small-ish. And BMW Motorrad India has managed to report sales growth at 100 percent in 2021 over 2020.
Sales momentum is majorly driven by BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS motorcycles. Combined sales of both entry level offerings accounted for about 90 percent of BMW Motorrad India sales through 2021. Other popular offerings include BMW C 400 GT, R 1250 GS / GSA, The BMW R18 Classic, the BMW S 1000 R and the BMW M 1000 RR.
BMW Motorrad Sales 2021. * sales reported as of 14th Dec 2021.
Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “Since its inception, BMW Motorrad has redefined the premium motorcycling scenario in India with its dynamic product range and bespoke riding experiences. 2021 has been a phenomenal year for BMW Motorrad in India. Despite the turbulence in the two-wheeler industry, we have performed well and achieved exponential growth.
We will continue to cater to the requirements of the purists while also fulfilling aspirations of a new base of brand fans who want to enter the Motorrad world. We remain committed in our endeavour to excite riding enthusiasts with new launches and curated experiences that truly reflect our motto of ‘Make life a Ride’.”
    BMW performance driven bikes
A strong product offensive thrives on the back of new and timely launches. All focused around ‘performance driven bikes with best-in-class riding dynamics’. Strategies have worked to meet customer demand in an optimised manner. And as a result, in a few short years, the 5k yearly sales mark has become a reality.
    BMW Motorcycle Sales 2021
The journey has further been helped by BMW Financial Services India. Flexible financial solutions helped facilitate sales. In October 2021, the company announced cumulative production of the 310 twin units having surpassed the 1 lakh units milestone. The majority of this number caters to export markets where the entry level premium offerings have carved a niche for themselves since launch. And popularity continues to grow unabated.  More

Initial response for C400GT has been pretty decent, as it has already received around 100 pre-bookings. C400GT is offered in several international markets and it had received an update earlier this year. It is the updated model that has now been launched in India, at a starting price of Rs 9.95 lakhs, ex-sh.
C400GT will be the first proper maxi scooter in India. As of now, products like Suzuki Burgman Street, Aprilia SXR 160 and recently launched Yamaha Aerox 155 can best be described as ‘maxi-styled’ scooters.
    BMW C400GT design and features
C400GT is specially designed for an urban environment. It is also capable of handling journeys that stretch beyond city limits. Designed for optimal comfort and equipped with hi-tech ride-by-wire technology, the scooter ensures a hassle-free experience.
With its beefy proportions, C400GT will be hard to miss on the streets. Some key features include full LED headlights, large windshield, step-up seat and upswept exhaust. In international markets, the bike is offered in three colour options – Style Triple Black, Alpine White and Callisto Gray Metallic.
BMW 350cc Scooter for India – Official Specs
Other key features include a 6.5 inch TFT display that is equipped with BMW Motorrad connectivity suite. It allows users to pair their smartphones to access a range of features on the go. Users can listen to music, make phone calls and get navigational directions to their destination. These functions can be accessed via the multi-controller provided on the handlebar.
A USB charging socket has been provided in the front storage compartment. The scooter has ample storage space under the seat with inbuilt illumination. It is possible that the list of features, as offered in international markets, could be slightly different in India.
    BMW C400GT engine and specs
BMW C400GT gets its power from a 350cc, water cooled, single cylinder motor. It is capable of generating 34 hp of max power at 7,500 rpm and 35 Nm of peak torque at 5,750 rpm. It is mated to a CVT gearbox. The scooter is Euro V / BS6 compliant and utilizes a closed-loop three-way catalytic converter. Rated max speed of BMW C400GT is 86 mph (approx. 138 kmph).

High pricing is a key factor that is likely to limit sales of maxi-scooters in the Indian market. Consumer preference for motorcycles and local traffic and ride conditions are other factors that can influence sale of larger capacity maxi-scooters in the country. More

Both BMW G310 duos received a substantial price hike of Rs 10,000 a few weeks ago
BMW Motorrad will soon be updating its entry-level G310 siblings with new colour options. The German automaker had teased the new colour options on G310R and its adventure tourer sibling – G310GS. Both updated motorcycles have now started to arrive at dealer showrooms. Test rides will start soon. Bookings are open at BMW Motorrad Bavaria Motors, Pune.
Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Vinod Natesan for sharing images. Changes to the MY2022 models are restricted to cosmetic updates that only involve new colour options. Bookings for the latest iteration of the bikes have already commenced a few weeks ago. Both motorcycles remain mechanically identical to their respective outgoing models.
    2022 G310R Colour Options
For starters, the entry-level naked roadster from the Bavarian brand will be offered in two new colour options namely Style Passion and Cosmic Black Two. While the latter is an all-black paint scheme, the former option gets white as a base paint with contrasting blue and red highlights for the body. The Style Passion colour option also features red accents on the exposed trellis frame and alloy wheels.
The German marque has discontinued the Polar White paint scheme from the international markets and is most likely to be dropped from the Indian market as well. This has been replaced by a new Kyanite Blue Metallic Style Passion colour option. BMW has also retained the Limestone Metallic Style Sport shade from the current iteration.

    2022 G310GS Colour Options

BMW has given this option a dual-tone theme with a silver-coloured side fairing, fuel tank panel and rear fender.
The alloy wheels have been blacked out as well. This accentuates the sporty appeal of the adventure tourer. Further, golden-coloured front forks add a nice contrast to the bike’s overall appeal.
Prior to this bike was available in three colour options namely- Rallye Style, Polar White and Kyanite Blue Metallic Style which have been retained. There was an additional special “40 Years GS” edition model which has been dropped from the GS lineup.
