Hyundai Creta Electric Gets 100 kW DC Charging – Charging Time Reduced

Hyundai Creta Electric

Hyundai Motor India has been at the forefront of 4.2m to 4.4m SUV segment (C Segment) for a long time with Creta. The company has brought Creta nameplate to electric SUV segment too, with the launch of Creta Electric a year ago. It has emerged as a popular choice among Indian electric car buyers.

Offering more convenience, Hyundai Creta Electric now gets a 100 kW DC fast charging for the first time, which should give it an edge over some of its rivals. Not only does this move increase convenience and desirability, it is also expected to boost sales for the brand. Let’s take a closer look.

Creta Electric 100 kW DC Charging

Charging and range anxiety are two of the most notorious culprits that has held back Indian SUV buyers to switch towards the Green Side. India’s charging infra, which is current at a nascent stage, does not help towards this cause either. Hyundai is taking conscious steps fixing some of these niggles with Creta Electric.

With an OTA update, Hyundai is unlocking faster charging with Creta Electric, which cuts down on charging time for users considerably. Up until now, Hyundai Creta Electric offered 50 kW DC fast charging and this has now been increased to 100 kW, ensuring shorter charging times at public DC fast chargers.

10-80% SOC via a 50 kW DC fast charging used to take around 58 minutes before this OTA update. With this new OTA update, Creta Electric can go from 10-80% SOC in just 39 minutes, when charged with a 100 kW DC fast charger. With one OTA update, Hyundai has slashed charging time by 19 minutes.

Because this faster charging is unlocked via an OTA update, there are no hardware changes. Creta Electric already had the hardware to support up to 100 kW DC charging, which is now activated by software. This is among the primary advantages of software-defined vehicles where they can get better with time.

Many EV manufacturers have unlocked higher range than what was quoted at launch, with software updates. With time, manufacturers come up with more efficient and streamlined algorithms to unlock more range and achieve higher drivetrain efficiency. Creta Electric offers a range of up to 510 km on a single charge with its larger 51.4 kWh battery on higher-spec variants.
