After the F 450 GS, BMW could also introduce other versions such as a roadster and a faired bike based on the new 450cc platform
BMW Motorrad is gearing up to launch its new entry-level 450cc twin-cylinder bike, expected to be the F 450 GS. The new 450cc range will work as a replacement for the 310cc BMW bikes. These new bikes will be manufactured in India, as part of the long-standing BMW-TVS partnership. Let’s check out the latest updates about BMW’s upcoming 450cc bike.
BMW 450cc bike – New growth driver
BMW Group India President and CEO, Hardeep Singh Brar, has stated that their new 450cc twin-cylinder bike will be available in the first half of 2026. There are also plans to introduce new litre-class motorcycles. These new bikes will play a key role in sustaining BMW Motorrad’s double-digit growth in the Indian market.
In CY2025, BMW Motorrad’s sales in India were at 5,800 units. The company ended the year with double-digit growth and will be looking to sustain this momentum with the upcoming bikes. The 450cc bike will apparently be the primary volume generator for the brand in India. Assuming it’s the F 450 GS, primary rival will be Honda NX500 and TRK 502 by Benelli along with KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
While eyeing healthy sales volumes with the new 450cc twin-cylinder bike is necessary, Brar said that their primary focus will be on profitability. Double-digit growth is the bare-minimum for BMW Motorrad in India. Brar also noted that the demand for premium bikes comes largely from experienced urban riders.
In comparison, demand for top-end superbikes is relatively limited. In addition to launching new 1-litre bikes, BMW Motorrad will carry out special ride initiatives to promote community building and boost growth prospects. Some hint about the likely pricing strategy for BMW’s new 450cc twin-cylinder bike have also been provided.
The company has stated that while its 310cc bikes and the CE range of electric vehicles were tagged as overpriced, there are no plans for cost cutting. BMW Motorrad will continue to focus on providing premium quality and luxury, and ensuring top-end performance for all its new offerings.
Engine, features
BMW Motorrad’s first bike based on the new 450cc twin-cylinder platform is likely to be the F 450 GS. The new engine generates 48 hp and 43 Nm of peak torque, and is paired with a 6-speed transmission. These numbers and the bike’s 178 kg weight comply with the mandates for A2 class license holders in Europe.
These specifications are necessary, as Europe will be one of the key markets for BMW’s new twin-cylinder bike. Users will be able to access a range of premium features such as the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). This allows automatic as well as manual clutch operations, ensuring the best fit for all types of users.
BMW’s 450cc twin-cylinder bike will also have features such as Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), ABS Pro and engine drag torque control (MSR). Users will be able to access ride modes of Rain, Road and Enduro. Instrument cluster will be a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen with turn-by-turn navigation.
