Upcoming Bajaj bikes will include both new models as well as updated versions of existing motorcycles
Bajaj has launched a mega product offensive for this festive season, with 10 new bikes scheduled by September. Among these, the new Pulsar N160 S, N160 SS, and Pulsar 125 and Pulsar 150 have already been launched over the past few weeks. As per plans, six more bikes remain to be launched by September. While updated versions are relevant, it will be interesting to see if any entirely new model is introduced.
Focus on Pulsar range
With the four new launches, Bajaj has covered part of Pulsar N series and Pulsar Classic range. In the coming weeks, updated versions of some of the Pulsar NS range bikes could be introduced. Pulsar NS range includes the NS125, NS160, NS200 and the flagship NS400Z. Considering that the focus seems to be on volume-oriented models, updated versions of NS125 and NS160 could be introduced first.
Pulsar NS bikes are preferred for their aggressive, high-revving character. Key features include sharp lines, muscular tank extensions and an underbelly exhaust. Pulsar NS bikes use a perimeter frame, which is stiffer, allowing sharper cornering and improved ride dynamics. These bikes offer sporty ergonomics, all while meeting the needs of everyday practical applications. Engines used with Pulsar NS bikes unlock exhilarating rides with strong top-end power delivery.
Data reveals that the Pulsar range currently contributes around 44% to the brand’s total monthly two-wheeler sales. A significant percentage is contributed by Pulsar bikes in the 125cc to 200cc category. Pulsar is also featured regularly in the list of top 10 bestselling bikes in the country. In July, Pulsar was ranked 3rd in the list, with sales of 66,156 units. It has a market share of close to 10%.
Upcoming new models
It remains to be seen if any new models are introduced by Bajaj in the coming weeks. Recent test mule sightings have revealed a new ADV bike, which will be the first such model for Bajaj. It was recently confirmed that this new ADV will be introduced in Brazil around Christmas, while India launch is expected before that.
Bajaj ADV bike could be positioned in the 250cc segment. It could use the 249cc, air/oil-cooled engine from the Pulsar N250. However, there is no official confirmation. Various features have been noted such as a fully digital TFT instrument cluster, conventional telescopic forks, a rear monoshock and a high-mounted exhaust. Bajaj’s new ADV bike will take on rivals like Hero Xpulse 210, Suzuki V-Strom SX and Yezdi Adventure.
Production boost
In view of the increased demand for its bikes, Bajaj is also working to expand its production capacity. From the current 72 lakh units per annum, the production capacity is targeted to be increased to more than 90 lakh units per annum. Both brownfield expansion and new greenfield facility options are being evaluated.
However, the location of the new plant and the related investment is yet to be finalized. In the April-June quarter, Bajaj’s sports motorcycle range witnessed a YoY growth of around 50%. Double digit growth was noted for Pulsar, Avenger and Dominar bikes.
