  • Hyundai has announced that it is dropping the six-speed manual transmission from the 2021 Venue subcompact SUV.
  • the 2021 Venue is powered by a four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
  • Pricing starts at $19,925 for the base SE model, $20,975 for the SEL, and $23,225 for the Denim.

In its second year on the market, the Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV is losing its six-speed manual. The manual transmission was only available on the base SE model, where it was standard, and the SEL and Denim models came equipped with the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which was also optional on the base SE. Now, it’s the only option.

A Hyundai spokesperson told Car and Driver that it is discontinuing the manual transmission because of lack of demand for it. The 2021 Venue is powered by a 121-hp four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and the EPA has estimated that the CVT-equipped Venue is good for 30 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

We hate seeing manual transmissions go, and now only a few subcompact SUVs can be had with a do-it-yourself gearbox, including the Subaru Crosstrek and Kia Soul. Hyundai now offers stick shifts on the Veloster, Elantra, and Accent.

The 2021 Hyundai Venue starts at $19,925 for the base SE model, $20,975 for the SEL, and $23,225 for the Denim model.
