  • Valentine One has released a successor to its classic V1 radar detector.
  • Called the V1 Gen2, it has military-grade radar tech to find further away targets, it scans much faster, and it has built-in Bluetooth.
  • It costs $499, and customers also have the option to upgrade their original V1 to the latest tech.

Valentine One has been selling the venerated V1 radar detector for almost 30 years, and now the Cincinnati-based company has released a new model, called the Generation 2, with longer range and built-in Bluetooth. They’ll even upgrade your old V1 detector to the newest technology. You may say, “But I’ve got Waze now,” and that app is indeed helpful, doing a lot of what radar detectors once did, but not always reliable. A detector is a smart way to back it up.

The Gen2 is equipped with technology found in military chirp radars that helps find targets that are farther away. New LNA tech helps with longer range, too. It detects weaker signals and also traps local oscillator output, making the Gen2 nearly undetectable. It scans all around your car. There are three arrows on the screen to point out the direction of the fuzz, much like the older version. One’s front facing, another shows side to side, and one shows what’s coming from behind. But the V2 works quicker.

As Valentine explains it, surface-acoustic-wave dispersive-delay-line technology helps the radar detector sort through unwanted signals such as driver-assistance tech much faster and find the real stuff: police cars. Additionally, Valentine claims, there’s a new K-verifier that also sorts through unwanted K alerts such as the automatic doors at a supermarket. So the company claims it can filter out the kind of driver-assist technology that didn’t exist at all back when the first Valentine radar detectors hit the market. It also occurs to us that it can complement and help verify Waze reports. A detector these days is a good backup.

Speaking of apps, Valentine One has a free app now, too, available for iOS and Android devices, that can be connected to the radar detector through the Gen2’s built-in Bluetooth. The app includes advanced threat analysis and programming of the device, along with upgrades of V1 Gen2.

The Valentine One Gen2 Radar Detector costs $499 plus shipping and handling and comes with accessories (power cords, suction cups, etc.). It can be ordered now on Valentine’s website, and existing owners can even upgrade their old Valentine One V1.
